The First Time With… 2011-12-31 Andrew Weatherall (6 Music)

“DJ Andrew Weatherall talks Matt Everitt through the musical milestones of his life.
While some DJs emerged out of the early house movement to settle into a comfortable and predictably lucrative careers as superclub-orientated superstar DJs, Andrew Weatherall has always followed his own musical compass.
Andrew discusses his career from the first track he ever DJ’d (the WWII War film theme 633 Squadron) onto his residency at the UK’s earliest acid house club Shoom. He also talks about producing Primal Scream’s genre-breaking Screamadelica and his later work delving into the darker side of vintage rock ‘n’ roll and techno.
This interview features the humour, style and impeccable musical choices that one would expect from one of contemporary music’s most innovative and original figures in music. It first broadcast in March 2011.”

Resident Advisor Exchange podcast RA.EX069 Mr C

“Ommmmmmmm: The outspoken Buddhist DJ tries to keep his outsized ego in check.
There are few things in the world of clubbing that Mr C hasn’t done. He’s been a DJ, a rapper, a producer, a club owner… For a few years, he was even a pop star. The two guiding forces in his lengthy career have been his ego—something he tries his best to keep in check through his devotion to Buddhism—and his dedication to the new—C rarely plays classics, spinning fresh underground music at every opportunity. He’s one of the most outsized characters in the world of electronic music, one that hasn’t slowed down much even after a move from his beloved London to the calmer climes of Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting a number of years ago. The Chelsea fan touched on all of these topics in a candid discussion with RA’s Todd L. Burns earlier this past month.”

Solid Steel Show 2011-12-30 DJ Food, Coldcut, DK and Hexstatic

“We continue our review of 2011 looking back at the most popular mixes by the Solid Steel resident DJ’s, as voted by you the listeners. Again ‘In no particular order’, we start with DK’s first ‘Cymatic Frequencies’ mix from January (that also came with an AV mix). Kidkanevil, Ramadanman and Maddslinky remixed Toddla T all feature, alongside a Ninja Trio and a Big Dada double, plus James Blake, Caribou and Bassnectar.
The Hexstatic mix that also appeared in January, was your favourite with the classic Royksopp remix of KOC, leading into the lovely electronica Two Dots by Lusine. SBTRKT’s remix of Modeselektors ‘Art&Cash’ leads perfectly into maierial from Robin Hexstatic’s project, plus music from Magnetic Man, Andreya Triana and Dave Angel.
In hour 2 Coldcut’s mix from July got your vote with a live DJ set from Matt Black at the Energy Union party in Brussels. It starts with classic selections from Kwanzaa Posse, Armando Trovajol, Mr Scruff and a KC Flightt hip house track from ’87. Then it’s the Redshape remix of Martyn’s ‘Seventy Four’ and we keep the pace with DJ Naughty and the epic Seiji mix of ‘Timber’.
DJ Food aka Strictly Kev’s mix from October was a favaourite, celebrating the release of his third EP – ‘Magpies, Maps & Moons’ and he compiled a ‘Magpie Reader’ full of tracks from it, his collaborators and influences. Featuring exclusive unreleased tracks and remixes as well as his trademark spoken word treasures it’s a sonic guide to where his head is at and paves the way for his album in January.”

Resident Advisor Exchange podcast RA.EX068 Atom TM

“A leading light in experimental electronic music shares his optimism for the future.
Uwe Schmidt once went by many names—Atom Heart, Dropshadow Disease, Lisa Carbon, Geez N Gosh, Phresh Phantasy among them—but now he is down to two monikers for his experimental electronic music: Atom TM and Senor Coconut. The Latin techno covers project is likely his best known. But Schmidt started his career in Frankfurt where he gained initial fame via his voluminous output on Pete Namlook’s Fax imprint, his own Rather Interesting label and countless others. Schmidt has been a vocal critic of the conservatism in electronic music over the past few years. But as we found out when he came to Berlin late last month, he’s extremely optimistic about what the future holds for precisely that reason.”
