Tricky and Massive Attack – Bristol 6 Mix Special 2016-01-30

Was hoping that the 6 Mix was back, but it just seems to be a one off.
“In this programme, there’s another chance to hear mixes from two stalwarts of the Bristol music scene. The first hour sees trip-hop pioneer Tricky take to the 6 Mix decks for an hour of musical inspirations, new and old. We then press play on Massive Attack’s 6 Mix from 2012, in which 3D and Daddy G play a selection of their favourite music, alongside tracks which influenced their seminal album Blue Lines.”

Groove Armada – 6 Mix 2015-03-20

“6 Mix Residents, Groove Armada, return to the 6 Music decks for one last time to play two hours of funk-fuelled house and disco.
Ever since the brass melody of ‘At The River’ melted our hearts in 1997, we’ve been captivated by Groove Armada’s consistently superb productions and incredible live shows. Seven studio albums later, a Grammy nomination for ‘Superstylin” and with a plethora of hits such as ‘I See You Baby’, Andy Cato and Tom Findlay still sit at the top of British electronic music.
After establishing Lovebox as one of the most eclectic and high quality line-ups in the increasingly competitive festival circuit, the pair have moved away from the event and are now concentrating on making some of the best underground house and techno tracks on forward thinking labels such as Hot Creations, Get Physical, Danseclub, Om & Moda Black.
As 6 Mix Residents alongside Goldie, Erol Alkan, Derrick May, Andrew Weatherall, Rob da Bank, DJ Yoda and Jamie xx, Groove Armada began their foray on the 6 Music airwaves by presenting the 6 Mix’s special to mark the 10th Anniversary of the station back in 2012. Since then, they’ve demonstrated their electric range of influences from funk, soul and disco classics all the way through to some of the most exciting up-and-coming producers making their mark in the game today.”

DJ Yoda – 6 Mix 2015-03-13

“DJ Yoda continues his exploration in to 40 years of hip hop.
Medium:
DJ Yoda continues his exploration in to 40 years of hip hop, playing classic cuts and new finds.
Long:
The pioneer of the bootleg ‘cut-up’ mixing style, DJ Yoda – aka Duncan Beiny – presents his second show, bringing his turntable trickery to Friday nights.
His seminal ‘How To Cut & Paste’ series of CD releases showcased a tongue-in-cheek mixing style with his influences ranging from funk, reggae and drum ‘n’ bass to big band swing and Country & Western.
Yoda’s first show for 6 Music was in June 2013 when he created the first ever visual 6 Mix, where he talked about his music video favourites and then delivered an incredible live audio visual mix which could be heard on the radio and seen online and via the BBC Red Button. He brought his amazing turntable skills back in October with a selection of his favourite hip hop tracks.
In this show DJ Yoda continues his exploration in to 40 years of hip hop, playing classic cuts and new finds.”

Erol Alkan – 6 Mix 2015-02-13

“Erol Alkan returns to the 6 Mix for his first show of 2015. His last show, back in November, saw him continuing on 6 Music with two hours of music from his DJ travels.
Erol has been at the centre of UK electronic music and clubbing since 1997 when he launched his iconic Trash club night in London which helped give rise to electroclash and acts such as Yeah Yeah Yeahs, LCD Soundsystem and Klaxons. As a producer he pioneered the mashup sound at the turn of the Millennium and has worked with producers like Boys Noize and Richard Norris, as Beyond the Wizard’s Sleeve, to create some of the biggest underground anthems. Additionally, he has remixed Daft Punk, MGMT, Justice and most recently the Manic Street Preachers. He also recently released the next edition of the FabricLive mix series. And it doesn’t end there – as an A&R he’s built up his label Phantasy as one of the hubs of exciting, emerging UK talent.
This all brings us to the fourth string to Erol’s dance music bow – radio. He’s been part of the 6 Mix for over five years now, pushing the sounds at the cutting edge of club culture, while giving nods to some of those who have helped shape the scene.”

Adrian Sherwood & Pinch – 6 Mix 2015-02-06

Wicked selection from these guys!!

“Sonic pioneers Adrian Sherwood & Pinch take over the 6 Music airwaves for a two hour journey in to dub and beyond, following their new collaborative album.
The new release, Late Night Endless, is the result of a two-year partnership between the two producers. Sherwood has graced the 6 Mix decks before and is known for his pioneering label On-U Sound. Primarily associated with the sound of dub, On-U Sound’s heritage is far broader, with many of its artists having backgrounds in punk & post-punk, industrial, hip-hop and funk. The other half of the collaboration is Pinch, real name Rob Ellis, who was an instrumental figure in the early dubstep scene and still remains one of the most prominent figures. The duo released their first two singles in 2013, which has paved the way for a full album.
In this programme, the duo take over the 6 Music airwaves for a two hour journey in to dub and beyond.”

Eats Everything – 6 Mix 2015-01-30

“Bristol-based beat maker Eats Everything takes over the 6 Mix for a tasty two hours of musical influences, new and old.
Eats Everything, aka Dan Pearce, arrived on the scene in 2011 with the aptly named track Entrance Song. From there he has had a sharp up-ward trajectory, winning a whole host of awards – from Best British DJ to being named in Resident Advisor’s Top 100 DJs poll. Aside from his own productions, Dan has remixed the likes of Adam F, X-Press 2, Four Tet and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs.
In this programme, Eats Everything takes to the 6 Mix decks for two hours of selections that you’ll definitely want second helpings of!”

DJ Zinc – 6 Mix 2015-01-24

“DJ Zinc plays two hours of musical influences, new and old.
Zinc’s career has spanned many genres and he’s still going strong today. He was one of jungle’s biggest stars, following the release of the classic track Super Sharp Shooter, which is 20 years old this year. He then moved to dominate the drum and bass scene, DJing and producing alongside DJ Hype and Pascal as True Playaz.
After setting up his own label Bingo Beats, he started to diversify into UK garage and created seminal tracks such as 2000’s 138 Trek. His latest releases under the ‘Structures’ series take him in to the bass, break beat and house worlds.
In this programme, DJ Zinc takes over the 6 Music airwaves for two hours of sublime selections – from house to jungle to rave – spanning his 25 year career. Expect music from the likes of A Guy Called Gerald, Photek, Rhythim is Rhythim and Paul Woolford.”

Caribou – 6 Mix 2015-01-16

“Caribou, aka producer Dan Snaith, takes to the 6 Mix decks for two hours of musical inspirations, old and new.
The Canadian producer’s fourth album Our Love featured at number 6 in 6 Music’s Albums of the Year list at the end of 2014 and has had huge support across the network from the likes of Lauren Laverne, Nemone and Gilles Peterson.
In this programme, Caribou presents an eclectic selection of tunes, to give you an idea of one of his DJ sets – with music from Milton Nascimento, DJ Koze, Carl Craig and a brand new track under his Daphni moniker.”

Lamb – 6 Mix 2014-12-26

“Stalwarts of the UK electronic scene, Lamb, take over the 6 Mix for two hours of influences and current favourites.
Lou Rhodes and Andy Barlow released their eponymous debut LP in 1996 which featured the genre defining tracks GΓ³recki and Trans Fatty Acid. Three albums later, in 2004, the band went on a hiatus and focussed on solo projects, with Lou’s debut solo album, Beloved One, receiving a Mercury Prize nomination.
Fast-forward to 2014 and the duo are back writing and producing together and this year’s LP Backspace Unwind as a result, which they came in to perform for 6 Music back in September.
In this programme, Lamb take control of the 6 Music airwaves with a selection of musical influences and current favourites with music from Herbie Hancock to Jai Paul via Aphex Twin and Jon Hopkins.”

X-Press 2 – 6 Mix 2014-12-19

“Renowned UK house duo X-Press 2 return to the 6 Mix for two hours of musical inspirations and current favourites.
Rocky and Diesel first rose to underground prominence in 1993, with their tracks Muzik Xpress and London Xpress; and later enjoyed mainstream success with their Number 2 smash Lazy, which featured David Byrne from Talking Heads. The duo returned to the studio and released their highly anticipated third album, The House Of X-Press 2 in 2012.
Even though they have been at the forefront of UK house for over 20 years there’s certainly no slowing down for the pair who spent the summer touring here and abroad. Aside from their 6 Mix shows the duo also played to a packed crowd at the 6 Music Festival back in March. Here in their fourth show of 2014, Rocky and Diesel play material that has inspired their productions, alongside some new dancefloor favourites.”
