“Nathan Fake takes to the 6 Mix decks for 120 minutes of experimental electronica.
Born in Norfolk, Nathan started releasing music in the early 00s with his debut album, Drowning In A Sea Of Love arriving in 2006.
Since then he’s released two other albums – the latest being Steam Days which came out in September – and was personally picked by Thom Yorke to remix Radiohead’s Morning Mr Magpie for their King Of Limbs remix series.
As he prepares to head out on tour with 6 Music favourites Orbital, Nathan takes to the 6 Mix decks to give us a taste of the ambient, techno-infused sounds which have made his name.”

6 Mix 2012-11-30 25 Years of Shoom with Dave Pearce and DJ Danny Rampling

“Dave Pearce talks to DJ Danny Rampling about the 25th anniversary of his seminal acid house club night, Shoom.
One of the UK’s best-known club nights, Shoom was inspired by Rampling’s trip to Ibiza in the summer of 1987 with his friends Nicky Holloway, Trevor Fung and Paul Oakenfold. Inspired by the “Balearic” DJing style of legendary Ibiza selector Alfredo, who they heard play for the first time that summer, Rampling and his wife Jenni decided to create a club night similar to those they’d experienced on the White Isle in the UK. Shoom began in a south London warehouse in the autumn of 1987 and swiftly became the epicentre of a new genre of music known as “acid house” .
Alongside Holloway’s night The Trip, Oakenfold’s Spectrum night and the Hacienda in Manchester, Shoom bought acid sounds to a whole new audience and played a key role in the explosion of dance culture in the UK. Although it closed its doors for the final time in 1990, Shoom left a lasting legacy on UK dance culture, and inspired some of the biggest names in electronic music from Derrick May to David Guetta.
In this special 6 Mix, Dave Pearce talks to Rampling about Shoom, its legacy 25 years on, and plays the music which inspired and soundtracked the club.”

6 Mix 2012-11-23 Massive Attack

“Dance music pioneers Massive Attack take over 6 Music for an exclusive 6 Mix, playing a selection of their favourite music alongside tracks which influenced their seminal album Blue Lines.
One of the UK’s best known electronic acts, Massive Attack formed in Bristol in the mid-1980s, out of the ashes of hip-hop collective The Wild Bunch.
Their debut album Blue Lines was released in 1991 and is seen by many as a watershed moment in British dance music, fusing hip hop, soul & jazz with the smokey late night vocals from Tricky and Shara Nelson. The album became an instant classic, with its lead single Unfinished Sympathy regularly topping polls for the greatest British single of all time.
Since then the band have released four further albums, collaborating with everyone from Tracey Thorn to the late Terry Callier, via Sly & Robbie Elizabeth Frazer and Elbow’s Guy Garvey.
As they prepare to re-release a fully re-mastered and expanded edition of Blue Lines 21 years on, Daddy G and 3G take over the 6 Mix to play a selection of music which has inspired their unique sound, from Kraftwerk and Man Parrish to Flying Lotus and Daphni.”

“Canadian DJ and graphic novelist Kid Koala takes to the 6 Mix decks for two hours of turntable trickery.
Born in Vancouver BC, Koala – known to his parents as Eric San – gained his nom de guerre whilst at university in Montreal, where his infamous mix tapes found their way into the hands of Ninja Tune who offered him a record deal.

His new album, 12 Bit Blues, sees him fuse a variety of 1920s blues recordings with his scratching and sampling aesthetic, creating a unique sonic stew.
Tonight, Koala drops by the 6 Mix studios to talk about the genesis of the album, his love of sampling and shows off his infamous turntablism skills. ”

6 Mix 2012-10-26 Erol Alkan presents: Justin Robertson and Jackmaster

“6 Mix resident Erol Alkan presents mixes from two of his favourite UK DJs: Manchester’s Justin Robertson and Glasgow’s Jackmaster.
Justin Robertson was a big influence on Erol in his early career and as a DJ needs no introduction. He was a regular at the Hacienda – first as a punter and then as a selector – and had chart hits during the 1990s under the moniker Lionrock. More recently he’s been making music with his new project the Deadstock 33s and playing acid influenced club sets all around the world; a sound he brings to tonight’s 6 Music show.
Bringing us bang up to date are the future electronic beats of Jackmaster. Starting his musical career working in Glasgow’s Rubadub records, Jackmaster has played a pivotal role in the city’s recent electronic music renaissance, bringing the likes of Rustie and Hudson Mohawke to a wider audience. The boss of Glasgow’s hippest underground label Numbers, his techno infused sets and productions have been hotly tipped by Erol to set clubland alight in 2013.”

6 Mix 2012-10-12 Nigel Godrich

“Super producer Nigel Godrich takes over the 6 Mix to play two hours of tunes which have inspired his unique sonic identity, alongside new music from his studio.
One of Britain’s best-known record producers, over the past two decades Godrich has mixed and produced tunes for a host of music’s biggest stars from U2 to Sir Paul McCartney via Pavement, Travis and Band Aid 20. However he’s best known for his work as long time producer of Radiohead, working on every album they’ve made since The Bends in 1994.
Described as their “sixth member”, his use of dense, textured production has become an essential part of their DNA. However, this autumn he’s stepped out from the mixing desk, playing keyboards in multimedia trio Ultraista (who release their debut album this month) and playing bass in Atoms For Peace featuring Thom Yorke.
In his 6 Mix, Nigel takes you on two hour journey through the recesses of his record collection, from Four Tet, Faust and Flying Lotus to Boards of Canada, Beck and Brian Eno.”
