“Two undeniable heavyweights from the original and future waves of UK bass music, Adrian Sherwood of On-U Sound Records and Rob Ellis AKA Pinch, join us for our Soundsystem Culture Special.
Their second album, Man Vs. Sofa, is coming out on 24 February on Warp Records. They’re playing an album launch party on 11 March at Brixton Jamm with Flowdan, Kenny Ken & Hodge.”
“The link is enough to make any soundboy or girl rise up. We have Adrian Sherwood, who’s been operating since the 80s, tirelessly representing and creating UK dub music as well as running the towering On U Sound imprint. And we have Pinch, OG dubstep producer, restless collaborator (check his work with Mumdance and Shackleton, respectively) and an individual dedicated to keeping bass-heavy dance music on the front foot via his Tectonic and Cold imprints. Nuff said.
In true dubwise fashion their In Session contains upfront exclusives from Mumdance & Logos, Walton, Higher Authorities, RSD, Disrupt & Lee Perry and Sherwood himself.”
“Sonic pioneers Adrian Sherwood & Pinch take over the 6 Music airwaves for a two hour journey in to dub and beyond, following their new collaborative album.
The new release, Late Night Endless, is the result of a two-year partnership between the two producers. Sherwood has graced the 6 Mix decks before and is known for his pioneering label On-U Sound. Primarily associated with the sound of dub, On-U Sound’s heritage is far broader, with many of its artists having backgrounds in punk & post-punk, industrial, hip-hop and funk. The other half of the collaboration is Pinch, real name Rob Ellis, who was an instrumental figure in the early dubstep scene and still remains one of the most prominent figures. The duo released their first two singles in 2013, which has paved the way for a full album.
In this programme, the duo take over the 6 Music airwaves for a two hour journey in to dub and beyond.”
“Solid Steel (30th May) In Hour 1 our guest is Pinch, with a vinyl selection spanning the years. He says about his mix;
“I wanted to take the opportunity to do something different for this Solid Steel mix and I decided to approach the mix as if I was ‘back from a good night out’ and winding down with some late night weird selections from my vinyl collection. The records were all pulled from my shelves on spur of the moment decisions – trying to dig out as many rare or vinyl-only riddims as I could along the journey. The result is a little self-indulgent and perhaps a bit random in places – but it’s something I’d enjoy listening to myself – so at least it’s honest..”
Meanwhile, in Hour 2 it’s Perera Elsewhere and she tells us;
‘Elsewhere can be a really moody & abstract place of musical refuge but there is definitely also a dancefloor there…this mix tries to incorporate all of that. In the end, the darkness of the dancefloor are a way of escaping the illusion that we call reality. At least it was for me having grown up in grimey London….doomed folk need doom folk and skanking dance music.”

“Pinch is our guest this week and it’s a mix celebrating the release of his FabricLive CD. He has been a key figure in the Bristol music scene and has gone on to create his own label Tectonic Records. Although well known for his dubstep, this mix takes us through the house and techno end of the spectrum and although there isn’t a tracklist available, you’ll spot the already classic ‘Music deep inside’ by Zed Bias and Ossie with ‘Tarantula’.
DK continues with the excellent ‘Spaceman Funk’ by Brawther which leads us into part of his ‘space themed’ set created especially for the DJ Food album launch party at the Greenwich Planetarium. A whole galaxy of space related tracks ranging from spaced out disco from Ednah Holt, the cosmic sounds of Mystic Moods, Talkling Heads with ‘Moon Rocks’ and of course, it wouldn’t be complete without Sun Ra and his Intergalactic Cosmo Arkestra.
In hour 2, our very own Strictly Kev from DJ Food is in the spotlight with an interview about his new album ‘The Search Engine’, which is released on the 23rd January. We get an insight into the making of his album, the collaborators involved and the artwork created by Henry Flint and Strictly Kev himself. We also get to hear tracks from the album along with music that has influenced him over the years, with tracks from Adam and the Ants, Kraftwerk, Grace Jones and Boards of Canada.”

“I guess I took the opportunity to do something a little different here than people may expect of me—I usually have stuck to the dubstep tempo (around 140 BPM) in the past, however, I wanted to play a mix of tracks I’m mostly feeling at the moment so the first half is at the slower tempo of around 128 BPM and the latter half at around 140 BPM. I wanted to give the mix a bit of a journey vibe rather than a straight up dancefloor selection. I decided to layer some additional samples to give the mix a bit more a unique ‘Pinch’ flavour (i.e. dark with lots of strange reverb!). Some of the mixing isn’t exactly perfect but I like the idea that these imperfections give it a bit of ‘life’—something I personally find a little lacking when DJs seamlessly mix with CDs/Ableton or whatever. [But it’s] just a personal preference really. ”

Watch out for fresh, new goodies from Elan Tamara, Colonel Red, Richard Spaven, new Mosca, fLako, and an unreleased Finn Peters track and more. Plus, a re-spin of Ebo Taylor.”
