Solid Steel Show 2011-03-11 DK and Interview with Wagon Christ

“This week DK takes over proceedings starting with the brutal Kyle Hall remix of the Carl Craig classic ‘Bug in the bassbin’ and continues with more dancefloor destruction from the current crop of killer club tracks from Ill Blu, Fourtet, Julio Bashmore and Boddika. It’s two from MJ Cole, two productions from NDV and two Hessle Audio tracks from Pangaea and Pearson Sound, before Africa Hitech blow the speakers with ‘Out in the streets’. We switch it down with Charles Stepney inspired music from The Stepkids and the source of that inspiration, Rotary Connection. Then it’s a track from the new Matthewdavid EP on Brainfeeder and a couple from the Gil Scott-Heron album with Jamie XX to close the first hour. With so much new music, DK continues into hour 2 starting with another cover, this time ‘When Saints Go Machine’ do the 80’s anthem by Kariya. William Breakspear gives Aloe Blacc some extra bass and it’s new music from Daedelus, plus another cut off the Brainfeeder label. Synthax from Luke Vibert ends the mix and leads nicely into an interview with him in his Wagon Christ guise. We hear about his background, musical influences and a taste of tracks from his new album ‘Toomorrow’ on Ninja Tune.”

FACT mix 229 by French Fries

“This Friday’s FACT mix comes from a key artist from Paris’s Youngunz stable, and the man behind several of our favourite dancefloor cuts of the past two years, French Fries. French Fries hasn’t released much, but everything we’ve heard with his name attached to it has been dynamite. Last year’s ‘Senta’ was like a European take on Lil Silva’s wrecking ball approach to UK Funky, uncompromising and barking mad, while this year’s Laquisha EP saw French Fries inject his productions with a newfound sense of romanticism – though naturally, it was found lying under a heap of peak-time riffs, syncopated drums and playful indulgences. With most of the people who matter behind him, it looks like things are only gonna get better for this kid – what better time for a FACT mix? Mount Kimbie, Joy Orbison, Karizma and Teeth feature, along with a sprinkling of recent French Fries remixes and originals.”

Resident Advisor Exchange RA.EX023 with Jesse Rose

“The restless DJ/producer talks drugs and the F word. The constantly multi-tasking Jesse Rose rarely stays in one place for long. Especially when things get too easy. Just as the house sound of London was beginning to take off, he set off for Berlin. Now that Berlin is a hotspot, he’s spending more and more time over in Los Angeles. The same goes for his musical output: As soon as you feel like you’ve got Rose pinned down, the Made To Play, Front Room and Play It Down label boss veers off to the left, confusing his fans as often as he excites them. That restless attitude is what has made Rose so relevant for so long, however. Those who have followed him throughout his recording career expect to be surprised. His earliest house tracks in collaboration with Switch as Induceve relied upon it. It’s a mindset that has seen him rise to exactly the position he’s always wanted to be in—a place where he can put out almost anything and have it make a weird sort of sense. As RA’s Jonny Coleman found out in Los Angeles recently, there’s much more than DJing, producing, drugs and the f word to Rose. (Although there’s a good bit of that too.)”
