FACT mix 216 by Hype Williams

“Their FACT mix is an epic, intrepid survey of the Hype Williams universe, touching on the billowing AM pop of Steely Dan and Fleetwood Mac, rough-hewn garage and grime from So Solid Crew and Ruff Sqwad, black metal abstraction from Burzum, sun-dried dub from Augustus Pablo, urgent art-rock from Beat Happening and The Fall, gallows humour from Lenny Bruce and Chris Morris, paper-thin synth-pop from Bardeux, slick hip-hop from Jaheim. What’s more, you get two previously unreleased Hype Williams tracks, ‘Farthing Wood Dub’ and ‘Businessline’, in the bargain.”

Maddslinky Trainwreck Mix for Red Bull Music Academy Radio

“At the end of the day, this guy Dave Jones aka Zed Bias aka Madd Slinky is one of the most likeable fellas you’re likely to meet, and he’d probably be quite good to have back you up in a pub brawl too. At least, he could clock who might be trouble in about two seconds. Musically too, he’s good at sussing things out, fast. And heaven knows this Madchester-based studio impresario has earned his stripes. Hailing from London and one of the true innovators of UK garage, his releases helped set the blueprint for the darker garage sound at the end of the ’90s, and with his many side projects he has also taken things into a jazzy, soulful direction. He’s also known for his countless productions as Phuturistix, Maddslinky, The Henchmen, remixed everyone from Whitney Houston to The Streets, worked with the likes of Miss Dynamite and Amy Winehouse, and with ‘Neighbourhood’ even had a Top 30 chart hit. Tune into this mix for a ton of exclusives from the slinky side of town.”

6 Mix 2011-01-23 Gang of Four

“Post punk pioneers Gang of Four take over the 6 Mix. Formed by singer John King and guitarist Andy Gill at Leeds University in 1977, Gang of Four released a string of acclaimed singles in the late 1970s and early 1980s including ‘Damaged Goods’ and ‘I Love A Man In Uniform.’ For a period of time they became one of Britain’s most talked-about bands, but future releases failed to live up to the hype and by the mid 1980s, the band had drifted into obscurity. A series of releases during the early 1990s helped them maintain a cult following, but eventually the band called it a day in 1994. Many expected Gang of Four to become a footnote in musical history, but all of sudden, in the early 2000s, a wave of then hot new bands including Franz Ferdinand, The Rapture and the Futureheads started citing Gang of Four’s early material as a key influence on their sound. Following this fresh and unexpected wave of interest, Gill and King reformed the band in 2004 and started recording again. As they prepare to release their first new album in 16 years entitled ‘Content’, Andy and John take over the 6 Mix decks to play a selection of music from the last 40 years which inspired them to make music and has informed the sound of their new LP.”
