6 Mix 2012-10-26 Erol Alkan presents: Justin Robertson and Jackmaster

“6 Mix resident Erol Alkan presents mixes from two of his favourite UK DJs: Manchester’s Justin Robertson and Glasgow’s Jackmaster.
Justin Robertson was a big influence on Erol in his early career and as a DJ needs no introduction. He was a regular at the Hacienda – first as a punter and then as a selector – and had chart hits during the 1990s under the moniker Lionrock. More recently he’s been making music with his new project the Deadstock 33s and playing acid influenced club sets all around the world; a sound he brings to tonight’s 6 Music show.
Bringing us bang up to date are the future electronic beats of Jackmaster. Starting his musical career working in Glasgow’s Rubadub records, Jackmaster has played a pivotal role in the city’s recent electronic music renaissance, bringing the likes of Rustie and Hudson Mohawke to a wider audience. The boss of Glasgow’s hippest underground label Numbers, his techno infused sets and productions have been hotly tipped by Erol to set clubland alight in 2013.”

Skream and Benga 2012-10-05 Skream with Jackmaster

“Benga’s off on ‘oliday so Skream has called upon Jackmaster to step up and keep him company. When his not DJing to sweaty clubs packed to the roof Jack can be found in Glasgow, releasing artists like Jamie xx, Mosca and SBTRKT on his prolific Numbers label. He’ll be the guest on A History Of Bass and he’ll be in the mix for the Slammers & Bangers.
Skream’s also got loads of exclusives from the likes of Flinch & Ellie Goulding, DKS and Enei. And don’t forget the 130 @ 11:30 where he plays us all his favourite house bits of the moment.
Two hours of the very best beats, bass and banter with Skream & Jackmaster.”

Resident Advisor podcast #289 by Jackmaster

So good!!
“Jack Revill is a young Glasgow-based DJ who is known for his party-friendly approach to playing records. The other point of note here is that he’s not a producer—Revill has risen to a position of prominence as co-founder of the Numbers imprint, and a key player on Glasgow’s underground electronic music scene. Revill has been working at the city’s Rubadub record store since the age of 14, and went on to co-found the Wireblock and Dress 2 Sweat imprints in 2007. Between them they dealt in everything from the Baltimore club sounds of Rod Lee through to the then emerging talents of Hudson Mohawke and Rustie. Sensing an opportunity for clarity and consolidation, Wireblock and Dress 2 Sweat folded in with Stuffrecords to form Numbers at the beginning of 2010. With no fixed attachments to styles or scenes, Numbers has proffered a peerless run of 12-inches that has this year included music from Mosca, Jamie xx, Redinho and Pierre’s Pfantasy Club.”

Numbers on Rinse FM 2011-08-30 with Ben UFO, Floating Points, Jackmaster and Spencer

“For next week’s post carnival Rinse show, someone was foolish to give us a 4 hour slot so what better an occasion to ask a couple of our favourite DJs on the planet to come along for a ride aboard the good ship Numbers alongside Jackmaster and Spencer. First up is one third of one of the best labels out, and one of the finest selectors this side of Mars; Ben UFO. Completing the dream team is the man who knows how to rock a Glaswegian dancefloor like no other; yes, it’s Floating Points.”

Solid Steel Show 2011-05-27 Jackmaster and DJ Moneyshot

“This week we welcome Jackmaster with a mix promoting his Fabric mix CD out this week. After kicking off with Freeze and Janet Jackson we soon slip into some classic house from Adonis and Detroit techno from Underground Resistence, before moving through more recent cuts from Blawan, Pearson Sound, Boddika & Joy O. New music from Hudson Mohawke and a track off the excellent Africa Hitech album also feature and then it’s a trip into rave territory with Awesome 3, before ending with Jay Z and the dubstep classic ‘Midnight Request Line’ from Skream. In hour two we welcome back official Solid Steel resident and undisputed mixtape champ, DJ Moneyshot. This week he hits us upside the dome piece with the Jogging Bottoms mix. In the blender this installment we have another deftly crafted play list of classic hip-hop, pedigree funk and wobbly breaks. New music from Parker and Boca45’s Bee Keepers project and Moneyshot’s Joe Driscoll remix nod to the hear and now, but vintage crate diggin’ in the form of The Beginning Of The End, Run DMC, The Brady Bunch and Ezee Posse doff royally to the blessed old school. Hats off Moneyshot, sir. Another day out for the ears.”
