FACT mix 224 by Justin Broadrick

“It’s his Pale Sketcher mask that Broadrick dons for this FACT mix, leaning strongly on hip-hop (Lootpack, Dr. Octagon, RZA) while travelling through various electronic forms that inform the project, including Boards of Canada, dBridge, Oval, Caustic Window and Chain Reaction. There’s even room for forthcoming Pale Sketcher material for Ghostly. It’s a legend at work; tuck in.”

Resident Advisor podcast #247 by Pinch

“I guess I took the opportunity to do something a little different here than people may expect of me—I usually have stuck to the dubstep tempo (around 140 BPM) in the past, however, I wanted to play a mix of tracks I’m mostly feeling at the moment so the first half is at the slower tempo of around 128 BPM and the latter half at around 140 BPM. I wanted to give the mix a bit of a journey vibe rather than a straight up dancefloor selection. I decided to layer some additional samples to give the mix a bit more a unique ‘Pinch’ flavour (i.e. dark with lots of strange reverb!). Some of the mixing isn’t exactly perfect but I like the idea that these imperfections give it a bit of ‘life’—something I personally find a little lacking when DJs seamlessly mix with CDs/Ableton or whatever. [But it’s] just a personal preference really. ”

6 Mix 2011-02-20 Jamie XX from The XX takes over the 6 Mix

“One third of the Mercury Awards winners The XX and 2011’s most in-demand remix artist, Jamie XX, takes over the 6 Mix. Formed in London in 2005, the XX released their debut album in 2009, with its sparse, minimal production by Jamie pricking up the ears of scenesters and musicians alike. In 2010 his reworking of Florence And The Machine’s cover of ‘You Got The Love’ set the online world alight, and already this year his remix of Adele’s ‘Rolling In The Deep’ has become one of the most blogged tunes worldwide. As he prepares to release ‘We’re New Here’ – his dubstep and old skool house flavoured reworking of Gill Scott Heron’s 2010 album ‘I’m New Here’, Jamie takes over the 6 Mix to play a selection of the music which inspired his productions alongside some of his current favourites. Jamie also tells the story of how he came to remix the whole Gil Scott Heron album and the dance music influences which informed its radical reworking.”

Terror Danjah Trainwreck Mix for Red Bull Music Academy Radio

“Terror Danjah is one of the biggest names in grime. Working as the in-house producer for his old label Aftershock, Terror was behind the buttons for over 25 grime artists including Tinie Tempah, Bruza, Mz Bratz and D Double E, to name but a few, helping to shape the sound of grime as we know it today, and launch the careers of unknown grime MCs into superstardom. After his instrumentals compilation ‘Gremlinz’ on Planet Mu, he released his highly acclaimed LP ‘Undeniable’ for Hyperdub. The album showed that Terror Danjah was not just limited to the grime productions he was known for. Bringing together his old amigos from his Aftershock days along with a few of the best up and coming talent on the grime circuit, the record fused some of the UK’s finest underground music with the greatest of ease, and shaped it into new Hyperdub realms. This helped Terror gain recognition across the globe, as he took grime to North America, Australia and beyond for the first time, showing that it’s not only London that has an insatiable appetite for his beats. To hear first hand why Terror Danjah is one of the UK’s most prized DJ/producers, take a listen to his Train Wreck Mix here.”
