Resident Advisor podcast #253 by Adam Marshall

“Adam Marshall’s New Kanada label has quietly become one of house and techno’s consistently great labels. The Mole, Seuil and Tolga Fidan have all released some of their finest recent works for the imprint, although the lion’s share of the discography has been populated by Marshall’s gritty, yet always emotive, take on house music. New Kanda’s success should come as no surprise, however: the DJ/producer has been putting out music and DJing since the late-’90s, and is now part of a core of Canadian producers—Deadbeat, Mike Shannon, The Mole, Mathew Jonson—residing in electronic music hotbed Berlin. New Kanada’s somewhat understated rise is in many ways mirrored by Marshall as a DJ—he’s never quite enjoyed the levels of fame of some of his compatriots yet can always be relied upon to bring something a bit special when he gets behind the decks. House, techno and a bit of bass music all adorn Marshall’s mix for us; melody is a recurrent theme, albeit with a generous side-serving of dirt. ”

6 Mix 2011-04-03 My Name is Tiga

“Canada’s ambassador for all things electro – Tiga – takes over the 6 Mix for 120 minutes of synth-based sonic wizardry. Based in Montreal, Tiga’s introduction to dance music came with the early 90s rave scene which inspired him to become a club DJ and set up his own label, Turbo Recordings. In the last decade he has become one of the most prolific producers in the world, remixing tracks by Soulwax, Fever Ray and the xx as well as releasing inspired covers of Nelly and Corey Hart. He’s also made his own solo album – Ciao – and collaborates with Zombie Nation under the alias ZTT. In his first 6 Mix, Tiga steps up to the 6 Music decks to play a range of electronic music from the past three decades, combined with a selection of cutting edge cuts from his DJ travels.”

Solid Steel Show 2011-04-01 DK and Leisure Allstars

“DK back in the hot seat opening with a track from Clonius off the excellent compilation on Affine Records, another spin for Africa Hitech and we keep the high tempo with Chrissy Murderbot. Then it’s classic reggae from Wayne Smith, mixed with ‘old skool’ jungle from Skoobz and more of the same with ‘R-Type’ from Jo, followed by the current refix from T.Williams. A killer track from Peverelist slips perfectly into the lush sounds of ‘Nobu’ by Herbie Hancock, before the bass kicks in with Albert. We also hear a Clonius remix of ‘Tropical Hands’ by Dorian Concept, jazz from Lorez Alexandria and Buster Williams, latin flavours from Nico Gomez and we end with The Specials and The Skatalites. The Leisure Allstars return once again with another fine selection hopping between styles, but they always manage to shake the dancefloor. Crookers kick us off followed by a Mos Def boot and NWA brought straight up to date by HavocNdeeD. A brief shot of DnB, hip hop from Rasco and bass n beats from Vent and Project Bassline. Sunlight Square Latin Combo bring summer vibes with their rendition of ‘I believe in miracles’ and we turn heavy again through to the end.”
