Solid Steel Show 2011-03-18 Benny Boom and Dr Rubberfunk

“It’s another mix from Benny Boom (aka Boom Monk Ben) calling in favours from mates to supply tracks for his fine mix and they deliver, with Parker, Mr Benn, William Breakspear, The Revenge and Ooft Music posting the tunes direct to his hard drive. Our man Moneyshot is also there alongside Kazey, Hint and S-Type to keep the party bumping. It’s great when your mates make such good music. It’s been a long time since we’ve had a Dr Rubberfunk mix, but his back in full effect splicing breaks and beats and putting them back together in fine fashion. Plenty of cut n paste action both old and new, a few drum break heavy remixes and a whole host of ‘jackin for beats’. There’s music on the operating table courtesy of Little Barrie, A Tribe Called Quest, Beck and J-Rocc, plus one or two from the good Dr himself.”

Resident Advisor podcast #251 by Recloose

“I did the bulk of this mix in early February when everything was first jumping off in Tunisia and Egypt (and now Libya, Bahrain and elsewhere). I’ve been glued to the news ever since of course and wanted to acknowledge the struggle that people are enduring, hence the title Three Words and starting with Kenny Larkin’s 1990 opus “We Shall Overcome” (and of course, The Jones Girls…). I tried to maintain the intensity through the mix and the idea of music and dance being a form of release from the tensions that the world is going through.”

6 Mix 2011-03-20 Ladytron and Holy Ghost

“Holy Ghost & Ladytron take to the decks for a 6 Mix synth spectacular, playing a selection of electronic music past, present and future. Liverpool electro quartet Ladytron emerged from the ashes of the electroclash scene in the early 2000s, taking their cues from the Liverpool scene that gave birth to OMD and the infamous Eric’s nightclub enshrined by Yazoo. As they prepare to release a retrospective of their last decade’s work, including cult singles ‘Playgirl’ and ‘Seventeen’ the band discuss their journey in electronic music and play a selection of the synth sounds which inspired them. Support comes from hotly tipped Brooklyn electro duo and in demand remid remixers, Holy Ghost. Signed to James Murphy’s influential DFA label, the band made their first visit to the UK this month supporting Cut Copy. As they prepare to release their debut album, the band play a selection of music which has informed their sound, including New Order, Depeche Mode and Talking Heads, alongside current favourites from Nic Chacona, Sh Robot, and Midnight Magic. Ladytron also provided last week’s Lunch Time Loves Playlist on Nemone’s show.”
