Gilles Peterson Worldwide 2011-09-21 Thom Yorke in the studio

“Thom Yorke returns as Gilles’s special studio guest this week, and he brings with him an exclusive Jamie xx remix of Radiohead as well as the new remix album due for release next month!
The two go back to back for the whole show, and touch on everything from Berliners Modeselektor and Anstam’s dark beats, through to Footwork from DJ Slugo and some classic Bristol swag from Massive Attack. But not before dipping into classic US Jazz from Duke Ellington and Bossa Nova from Segio Garcia.
Radiohead fans and music lovers alike, this show is not to be missed!”

FACT mix 283 by Cut Hands

“Cut Hands is the latest incarnation of William Bennett, founder of Whitehouse, notorious purveyors of extreme electronic music. Bennett formed the project in 1980, following a stint as guitarist in Essential Logic and subsequent solo recordings as Come (featuring contributions from Daniel Miller and J.G. Thirlwell). Having long dreamed of a creating “a sound that could bludgeon an audience into submission”, he made that dream a reality in Whitehouse, whose brutal, reductionist and flagrantly atonal music is characterised by bowel-loosening bass tones, ear-shredding high frequencies, showerings of white noise and hectoring, venomous vocals, usually barked, often screamed.”

Resident Advisor Exchange podcast RA.EX055 G-Ha and Olanskii

“Oslo calling.
Big names get all the hype, but it’s the work of local promoters that have made dance music a worldwide phenomenon. Oslo’s G-Ha & Olanskii are two of the best. They’re the brains behind the Norwegian capital’s Sunkissed party, and have brought in a variety of house and techno’s leading lights over the course of the event’s decade-plus run. Nowadays, Olanskii also runs a small local club called Jaeger, which is where RA’s Todd L. Burns caught up with the duo to talk about why Norway seems to breed so much creativity and why the scene in Oslo is stronger than ever.”

Solid Steel Show 2011-09-16 Mr Tea and DJ Food

“This week it’s a debut for Mr Tea who drops his ‘Harsh side of the moon’ mix from his current home in New Caledonia in the Pacific Ocean. The globetrotting DJ kicks off with abstract beats from Outersect, Prefuse 73 and Modeselektor and continues with tracks from Wagon Christ, Fiord and High Tone. It’s more highlights from the last few years with Antipop Consortium, Tipper and Julio Bashmore from 2009. The high tempo continues with the excellent ‘Clap Trap’ from Joe plus more from Tipper and APC to close.
DJ Food steps up in hour 2 with a mix of unreleased music from the ’64 bar challenge’ where the brief was for each track to be 110 beats per minute and last 64 bars. The series was originated on the Ninja Tune forum by Kovas and driven over 6 different challenges with entries from all over the world. Music comes from many unsigned artists, but we also have tracks from Solid Steel resident DJ Moneyshot and previous guests on the show.”
