“Jamie xx returns to 6 Music for the third show in his 6 Mix residency, reflecting the most exciting music emerging from clubs across the world.
Since his last 6 Mix back in the summer, Jamie has been busy touring, both with The xx and as a DJ. Aside from his numerous live dates, he has been working on The xx’s third album and has recently created some music for a short film by Sofia Mattioli, alongside other producers such as Koreless and Four Tet.
Ever since bursting onto the UK music scene with his band, The xx, Jamie xx has been one of the most in demand and talked about artists around. Along with Romy Croft and Oliver Sim, he won the 2010 Mercury Music Prize, and continues to win plaudits from pretty much everyone who hears his music.
Having gone to the same South London school as Four Tet, Hot Chip and Burial, on his own he’s re-worked Gil Scott-Heron’s final album, and released original productions on Scottish label Numbers – who’ve also provided a platform for Rustie, SBTRKT and Deadboy. He’s been at the forefront of UK Bass which has found its way into mainstream tracks and helped pave the way for the resurgence of Garage.
Hailed by Thom Yorke and with everything he does blogged about across the world, Jamie is more than a welcome addition to the 6 Mix Residents roster alongside Goldie, Erol Alkan, Derrick May, Rob da Bank, Andrew Weatherall, DJ Yoda and Groove Armada. In this third resident show for 6 Music, Jamie will be playing two hours hand-picked tracks, new and old.”

“Four Tet, aka Kieran Hebden, returns to the 6 Mix for two hours of sublime selections.
Born in London, Kieran Hebden formed the band Fridge, whilst at school, with friends Adem Ilhan and Sam Jeffers. The trio released their first album in 1997 on Output Recordings. The following year, Hebden started to release under the Four Tet moniker and last year saw his 7th full length Four Tet album, Beautiful Rewind, released on his own Text Records imprint.
Aside from his solo works, he has collaborated with a whole host of musicians and producers, noticeably with the late jazz drummer Steve Reid, Burial and Thom Yorke and has remixed a whole host of artists such as The xx, Bloc Party, Beth Orton, Battles and Radiohead.
This year has seen collaborations with Martyn, Terror Danjah and most recently, a film composition for a film project by Sofia Mattioli, alongside 6 Mix resident Jamie xx and Koreless.
In this programme Four Tet takes over the 6 Mix for 120 minutes, playing some rare gems and new favourites.”

“Kindness, aka Adam Bainbridge, takes over the 6 Mix decks for two hours of musical influences and inspirations.
Kindness was last on the station when he did a session for Lauren Laverne in October, around the release of his new album Otherness, and tonight he returns to the 6 Music airwaves for an eclectic selection of music that inspired that release. Expect a journey from Jazz greats such as Charles Mingus and Herbie Hancock to Caribou via Talk Talk and Prince.”

“London DJ foursome Horse Meat Disco bring soul, disco and Italo to the 6 Mix for a Friday night party.
Since 2003 James Hillard, Luke Howard, Severino and Jim Stanton, have been crate-digging and DJing together as Horse Meat Disco. Their parties are well known for both their atmosphere and eclectic selections, with the the group’s musical tastes ranging from house to gospel and classic disco to more cosmic sounds. They hold club residencies in New York, London and Berlin and have put out a series if compilations through the Strut label of some of their favourite club classics and rarities.
In this show, the guys take to the 6 Mix decks for two hours of music to keep you moving on a Friday night: James Hillard provides the first 30 minutes playing some soul and rare-groove, Severino and Jim Stanton take over for the middle hour with some newer, clubbier sounds and then Luke Howard wraps up proceedings and slows things down for the final half hour.”

“The pioneer of the bootleg ‘cut-up’ mixing style, DJ Yoda – aka Duncan Beiny – joins the roster of 6 Mix residents, bringing his turntable trickery to Friday nights.
His seminal ‘How To Cut & Paste’ series of CD releases showcased a tongue-in-cheek mixing style with his influences ranging from funk, reggae and drum ‘n’ bass to big band swing and Country & Western.
Yoda’s first show for 6 Music was in June last year when he created the first ever Visual 6 Mix, in which he talked about his music video favourites, then delivered an incredible audio/visual mix live which could be heard on the radio and seen online and via the BBC Red Button.
DJ Yoda says: “I have a huge amount of respect for 6 Music. Itâ€TMs a station that champions a creative approach to music so being asked to become a 6 Mix Resident makes me feel right at home. The feedback for the visual 6 Mix I did last year, which went out on the BBC Red Button, was extraordinary and I can’t wait to try and top that. Boom!”
In this first show in his residency, DJ Yoda plays some musical influences and some current dancefloor favourites.”
