“Robin Hexstatic back in the mix this week. We start off with some nice house vibes from Matin Buttrich and SBTRKT and into Hexstatic present Trailer Trax’s ‘Can This Be’,..available for FREE (plug plug) here: http://hexstatic.bandcamp.com/ Next up is Magnetic Man’s ‘The Bug’, a deep and heavy dubstep bouncer, Dauwd’s Could It Be is an up-tempo and energetic 2-Step dance floor groove from the burgeoning Pictures Music label. Dark Sky’s excellent remix of Kelis then leads into the anthemic Kulture remix of Falling by Phaeleh. Next, two tracks from the awesome Cut Music Vol1 followed by arpeggio madness of XXXY’s leads into the surprisingly soothing Abyss from Reso and finished off with and all time favorite from Little Dragon with ‘Twice’,..suitably in it’s original and 16 Bit bootleg forms. In hour 2 we feature a mix from 2D which is heavy on the dubstep with music from Skream, Joker and Flux Pavillion, plus music from his latest EP on Resin Records ‘Give a little love’ taking in plenty of reggae and dub influences. To finish the second hour, Ghostbeard is back taking us back to the roots with music to hopefully kick start the summer. Prince Fatty, Horace Andy, and Max Romeo all feature, plus dub flavours from Grace Jones and Serge Gainsbourg.”

“This week Ghostbeard adds some heat to the winter chills with a mix leaning heavily on the Ninja Tune XX box-set and some other recent Ninja/Big Dada hotness. We hear music from Bang On, Toddla T and The Bug, all mixed up with some ragga business from Mr Lexx, Busy Signal and Lady Chann, plus Beenie Man’s awesome rip on Kenny Rogers “The Gambler”.
DJ Moneyshot takes charge of hour 2. Using a lifetime of Hip-Hop knowledge, a year of digging, and a solid weekend of slicing and dicing, he’s presents his Deep Covers mix. It’s a jam-packed hour of bands, comedians, DJs and MCs performing tributes, bites, covers and remixes of their favourite Rap jams. So we get the UK’s DUBbledge reworking the hallowed ’93 Till Infinity by Souls of Mischief, Turntablists ’89 Skratch Gangstaz re-cutting Double Dee & Steinski’s Lesson 3, and Barenaked Ladies taking on P’E’s incendiary Fight The Power. Thankfully Duran Duran’s ’95 cover of White Lines was left on the cutting room floor. Nice work, Moneyshot.”

“Solid Steel in association with Serato (27th August) This week Freestylers hit us with the perfect mix to kick off the holiday weekend. It’s a fast paced mix heavy on the beats, with music from Drumattic Twins, Zinc, Subscape and a whole host of tracks from the guys themselves.
DK up next to keep the pace flowing, starting with the rather tasty Midland re-edit of Sun by Caribou, new releases from Tru Thoughts with Hint and Maddslinky remixed by Simbad, plus Work Them by Ramadanman, currently doing the bizness and, as it’s carnival weekend, the classic Scrappy by Wookie wraps up the first hour.
Ghostbeard is back giving us the real taste of carnival starting off with some versions on the very excellent Prisonbreak Rhythm, a couple of jams from South Rakka’s joint, Elephant Man, Warrior One and leaning heavily on Poirier’s Running High album. If that doesn’t whet your appetite for Notting Hill, then nothing will.”

Solid Steel Show 2009-11-27 DK, Ghostbeard and DJ Reno

“Solid Steel in association with Serato (27th November) DK kicks off the show deep in the bass department with music from Planas, Reso and two new cuts from Skream. We drop it down with a beautiful track from new Ninja Tune artist Emika and follow in a similar vein with Hyetal and the sublime Joy Orbison remix of Fourtet’s ‘Love cry’. A more soulful edge for the second half with BBE digging up classics from Ronnie Dyson and nu soul from Al Kent, and ending with a dubbed out version of The Beatles and the quirky Oh No Ono from Denmark.
Hour 2 has a reggae soundclash with Ghostbeard taking on DJ Reno. Toddla T, Major Lazer and Bassnector represent the dancefloor end from Montreal’s Ghostbeard, while Cardiff city selecta DJ Reno supplies the Roots and Reggae selection, with sounds on rotation from Damian ‘Jr. Gong’ Marley, Freddie McGregor, Beenie Man and Macka B.”
