“Jaymo & Andy George are former Radio 1 Residents who shot to stardom when The Essential Mix Introducing Tour landed at their club Moda in Lincoln in 2008.
They joined Radio 1’s In New DJs We Trust roster soon after and they’ve also been Pete Tong’s Friday Night super subs over the past couple of years. As owners of the Moda Black label, they’ve introduced some of the UKs best emerging talent of recent years, including Hot Since 82, Disclosure and Shadow Child. “Cedric Gervais is a French born, Florida based DJ & Producer. He became the youngest ever resident at Paris’ famous Queen club when he was just 15 years old, before moving to Miami in the late nineties. He’s been a resident at some of the city’s most iconic venues, including Crobar (now Cameo), Nikki Beach and Space. As a producer he has worked with and remixed the likes of Lenny Kraviz and Lana Del Ray. And he was behind the infectious ‘Molly’, which was infamously name checked on stage by Madonna.”

“Dragan Roganovi?, aka DIrty South, is an Australian DJ and Producer. He’s behind tracks like Alive and Eyes Wide Open with Thomas Gold and City Of Dreams with Alesso. He’s been nominated for two Grammy Awards and has several Essential New Tunes to his name!
He’s collaborated with the likes of David Guetta and Axwell. He’s lent his remixing skills to everyone from U2 to Nero. And he’s responsible for the remix that arguably made the Diddy Dirty Money tune Coming Home. He runs his own label Phazing and he’s just released his first ever artist album called Speed Of Life.
This Essential Mix features exclusives from Those Usual Suspects and Michael Brun, new tracks from Pryda and Nom De Strip and a rare Jacques Lu Cont remix of City Of Dreams. Epic!”

“”Even though I play a lot of live shows, I also really enjoy making DJ mixes. Apart from my earlier productions, and Coma Cat!, a lot of people know me from my very first Resident Advisor mix, which really did help to changes things career-wise for me.
And this one is no different. As ever, there is a certain sound and sensibility that I like in my music, but I also like the odd curveball, like opening with that really stunning track from Alice Coltrane called ‘Krishna’. I would say the first hour is super-deep and mellow and the second really kicks up a gear, so it’s a game of two halves!
I’ve included new music from people like Medlar and Martin Patino, as well as new productions from my forthcoming artist album, which will be out later in the year. I have to say, I’m super-happy with my Essential Mix. It has groove and depth and doesn’t take any obvious routes… I hope you enjoy it too”.

“Mat Zo makes his Essential Mix debut with a seventy track spectacular. He says of the experience:
“I started making music when I was eight. And I started DJing when I was a teenager after a special music class. DJ Pied Piper came in and taught us all how to mix and from that moment i was hooked! All the music in the (essential) mix is stuff that has inspired me or stuff that is hardwired into my brain from listening to it so much! There are also new tracks that give me hope in the music industry. I started laying down tracks and seeing where the mix would go and it was a really experimental process in a lot of ways. I chose tracks that wouldn’t necessarily would go together in a club set, but would work as something you would listen to on a day-to-day basis”. Mat Zo, February 2013.”

“”Hi, I’m Metrik and I’m an electronic music producer from London, UK. One of my main aims with this mix was to keep the selection as fresh as possible by sourcing new music from my favourite producers and labels in drum & bass and beyond.
The mix includes a lot of my own tunes and remixes as well as some unreleased, previously unheard material, including my collaboration with ShockOne called ‘Lazerbeam’ and ‘Flightwave VIP’. There are also some unreleased projects which I’ve been working on recently in the studio and some brand new and exclusive tracks from High Contrast, Ed Rush, Dirtyphonics, ShockOne, Killsonik, Skrillex, Cyantific, Dimension, Brookes Brothers, Flux Pavillion, Opiuo, DC Breaks, Danny Byrd and Roni Size.
I’ve included some things I wouldn’t normally play in a one hour DJ set and have tried to reflect a wide spectrum, covering dance floor, downtempo and some deeper sounds. Hopefully the mix serves as a snapshot of some of the best new music around and what’s to come over 2013″.

Future Stars of 2013
Throughout January Pete Tong, Annie Mac, Heidi and Friction are shining the spotlight on four artists who they think are going to break through big time in 2013.
Heidi’s choice is a DJ/Producer from London who has emerged as one of the hottest talents in house and techno in the last couple of years. He released his first records through Scuba’s Hotflush label in 2010 and he’s since linked up with labels like Hypercolour, Man Make Music and Aus – which put out probably his biggest track to date ‘Child’.
‘This mix really represents where I’m at as a producer and a DJ at the moment. There’s a few completely unheard tracks by myself in the mix, as well as unreleased bits from Scuba, Bicep, Midland and several others. There are also some of my most treasured records by people like Carl Craig, Shed and Ame in there. It covers a lot of ground stylistically and for me on a personal level. Big thanks to Heidi and to Radio 1 for inviting me to do this mix. Its a real honour to contribute to a series that so many of my heroes have been a part of’. George Fitzgerald, January 2013.

Annie’s choice is a DJ/Producer who is no newcomer, but who has re-emerged after a brief hiatus, during which time he holed up in his country studio producing some future house classics like ‘The Giver’ and ‘Need U (100%)’.
“For me, being from the UK, the Essential Mix is an institution, so I am honoured to receive the call from Annie & Pete. My aim was to give listeners an insight into the music that motivates me to record and also to showcase my own material, including some exclusive works. The overwhelmingphilosophy behind the mix wasto represent what I play on a regular basis on my weekly travels around the world. The mix was recorded in a single take on a standard CDJ set-up, with the majority of tracks being edited to help keep a consistent energy throughout the mix. “Future Stars of 2013
Radio 1’s Essential Mix throughout January focusses on the Future Stars of 2013, with Pete Tong, Annie Mac, Heidi and Friction each shining a spotlight on the artists they think are going to break through big time this year.
Pete’s choice are two stars of the red hot French Express label – American DJ and producer Perseus and Sweden’s Jonas Rathsman. Perseus recently remixed Jessie Ware’s Night Light, whilst Rathsman is behind the funky Tobago EP. The label also released Chris Malinchak’s recent Essential New Tune, ‘So Good To Me’.
Co-mixed by Perseus and Jonas, this is two hours of euphoric and soulful music rooted in a contemporary house. Talking about their selections, Perseus explains ‘Club tracks rotate by the month and this mix had to go beyond that. This mix is an essential snapshot of what French Express stands for, an amalgamation of tunes selected by the combined tastes of the label, for the listener, without getting too historical, tributary, or knee deep in personal inspiration-lending music of our pasts’.
