Tom Ravenscroft 2011-05-27 with S*** Horse

“Features a guest mix and interview with North Carolina act S*** Horse. The 4 piece formed at a gig in July 2009, and released a cassette mini album ‘They S*** Horses Don’t They’ last year. They are huge favourites on the show. Tom will play a track that a listener found in a charity shop in the aptly titled ‘Charity Drop’. A listener selects a year and then picks 2 tracks from it and an object to put into the ‘Tom Capsule’.”

Solid Steel Show 2011-05-27 Jackmaster and DJ Moneyshot

“This week we welcome Jackmaster with a mix promoting his Fabric mix CD out this week. After kicking off with Freeze and Janet Jackson we soon slip into some classic house from Adonis and Detroit techno from Underground Resistence, before moving through more recent cuts from Blawan, Pearson Sound, Boddika & Joy O. New music from Hudson Mohawke and a track off the excellent Africa Hitech album also feature and then it’s a trip into rave territory with Awesome 3, before ending with Jay Z and the dubstep classic ‘Midnight Request Line’ from Skream. In hour two we welcome back official Solid Steel resident and undisputed mixtape champ, DJ Moneyshot. This week he hits us upside the dome piece with the Jogging Bottoms mix. In the blender this installment we have another deftly crafted play list of classic hip-hop, pedigree funk and wobbly breaks. New music from Parker and Boca45’s Bee Keepers project and Moneyshot’s Joe Driscoll remix nod to the hear and now, but vintage crate diggin’ in the form of The Beginning Of The End, Run DMC, The Brady Bunch and Ezee Posse doff royally to the blessed old school. Hats off Moneyshot, sir. Another day out for the ears.”

Resident Advisor Exchange RA.EX036 with Enric Palau of Sonar festival

A chat with the co-director of one of electronic music’s biggest festivals. The tagline for Barcelona’s Sonar festival is “Advanced Music and Multimedia Art.” There’s a reason for that. Since its beginnings in the mid-’90s, the event has aimed to bring worlds together. Worlds that don’t often meet. These days it may be de rigueur for a festival to book Holger Czukay, Sven Väth and Atom Heart next to one another. Sonar is one of the reasons that it seems completely normal. Through the years, the festival has also forged long-standing partnerships with artists like Jeff Mills, Richie Hawtin and Matthew Herbert, which has meant that world premiere performances (and special one-offs) are almost a given. We met with Sonar co-director Enric Palau in London to talk about the event’s origins and its unique place in the world of electronic music earlier this year.”
