Tom Ravenscroft 2011-09-23 guest mix from Roll The Dice

“Features a mix from Stockholm based analogue synth duo Roll The Dice. They released their 2nd album ‘In Dust’ on September 12 on the Leaf Record label. It was recorded in Sweden over the first few months of 2011, mixed in a remote studio in Norway and finally mastered in Berlin by Stefan Betke (master of electronic dub Pole). “This album is made as a whole piece; it’s made with the album in mind,” says band member Peder Mannerfelt.
Tom will play a track that a listener found in a charity shop in the aptly titled ‘Charity Drop’. A listener selects a year and then picks 2 tracks from it and an object to put into the ‘Tom Capsule’.”

6 Mix 2011-09-25 DJ Shadow: the songs which inspired Endtroducing

“Pioneering producer DJ Shadow takes control of the 6 Mix, talking and playing the music which inspired his seminal debut LP Endtroducing and his brand new album.
Raised in California, Shadow – AKA Josh Davis – started his career as a college radio DJ in the early 90s but soon started experimenting with making sample based electronic music, which found its way into the hands of British DJ, hip hop aficionado and founder of the Mo’ Wax label, James Lavelle. A remix of Massive Attack’s Karmacoma got people talking, but it was the release of his 1996 album Endtroducing – the first ever LP to be wholly constructed out of samples – which made Davis’ name.
In this special 6 Mix, Shadow plays the music which inspired Endtroducing, on the 15th anniversary of its release. He talks about how music by De La Soul, Afrika Baambataa, Peshay and Debbie Harry amongst others informed its sound.
There’s also a chance to hear what inspired the production on his new album – The Less You Know, The Better -including tracks by Little Dragon and the Weekend.”

Kutski 2010-09-24 XL Records Freerange Mix

“This week we’re winding the clock back to look at XL Records – one of the most influential records labels of the 90s in pushing hardcore rave out of the underground and into the mainstream. Breaking artists like Awesome, SL2 and the now infamous Prodigy, many of their singles and albums enjoyed success in the national charts.
Plus The Hardest Record In The World Right Now; Kutski drops some old skool vinyl in Snap, Crackle…Drop; and the best upfront UK Hardcore in the mix.”

Resident Advisor Exchange podcast RA.EX056 D’Julz

“A Paris institution talks about his formative years.
A longtime Rex resident, D’Julz has made a firm imprint on the Parisian clubbing landscape. More than 15 years into his run at one of the French capital’s most respected clubs, Julien Veniel is clearly one of the stalwarts of the local scene. It was trips to New York and London, though, that perhaps had the most lasting impact on the DJ/producer. In this largely past-focused edition of the Exchange, Veniel talks about the Sound Factory’s enormous influence, as well as some of the lesser known French DJs that turned him onto dance music. Bass Culture—his night at Rex and his label of the same name—clearly owes an enormous debt to these formative experiences. Listen along as Veniel pays respect, and, in the process, explains how he became one of Paris’ most consistent DJs.”
