Resident Advisor Exchange RA.EX049 The Mole

RA goes underground with the Canadian loop lover. It’s hard to get a straight answer out of Colin de la Plante. His responses begin normally enough, but then he just starts to wander off on a different path entirely. His music as The Mole, however, is almost the complete opposite. Addicted to seeing what happens when something is repeated over and over and over again, de la Plante is in love with highly focused repetition. (In 2008, after the release of As High as the Sky, many fell in love with it too.) His past in the British Columbia underground along with his friends in Cobblestone Jazz (a group he sometimes records with) may offer some clues as to where all this comes from. The same goes for his time spent soaking up the scene in Montreal as it started to take off in the early ’00s. But the answer probably won’t be found in this particular interview. As we said, de la Plante tends to get sidetracked (and so does his microphone). Nonetheless, it’s one of our favorite Exchanges yet.”

David Rodigan on BBC Radio 2 2011-08-04 part 4

David Rodigan showcases his love for all types of reggae music, presenting an hour of classic roots and reggae music from the 60s to the present day. Playing the best in reggae, roots, ska and rocksteady, each song will be linked by Rodigan’s encyclopaedic knowledge and warm reflective stories from reggae music’s history. There will also be guests and live sessions from classic artists. This week, David looks back to the summer of 1976, when a new British reggae band had just been signed to a major British label, Island Records. They were Aswad, the young lions of Ladbroke Grove, whose debut single Back to Africa rocketed to the top of the British reggae charts. Hear it again on Radio 2 with Rodigan, along with music from the 60s Jamaican queen of rocksteady Phyllis Dillon, and Desmond Dekker’s first UK chart-topper.”

Dubpressure on MoS Radio 2011-08-01 dubstep hosted by Kion

This week with tunes from Phaeleh, Benga, Jazzsteppa and more.
“Dubpressure: The long-standing club night run by Unlikely, Letty, Dom and Kion of Clandestine Cultivations. Starting in 2005, it grew to become Brighton’s premier dubstep event, and thanks to the resident Gramps soundsystem one of UK’s best for deep bass – drawing regular roadblock crowds to the numerous seafront venues it has held residence in over the years.”

“David Rodigan showcases his love for all types of reggae music in a new ten-part series for Radio 2. With an hour of classic roots and reggae music from the 60s to the present day, Rodigan celebrates reggae’s back catalogue and looks to its future. Playing the best in reggae, roots, ska and rocksteady, each song will be linked by Rodigan’s encyclopaedic knowledge and warm reflective stories from reggae music’s history. There will also be guests and live sessions from classic artists. This week, Silly Games by Janet Kay is a British lovers rock anthem, and you can hear it again with Rodigan, alongside 60s Jamaican beach music from John Holt and The Paragons, and roots-rock-reggae anthems by Burning Spear and Dennis Brown. Big bass lines, rocksteady rim shots, glorious harmonies and sweet rhythms on BBC Radio 2.”
