X-Press 2 – 6 Mix 2013-10-18

“Renowned UK house duo X-Press 2 return to the 6 Mix for two hours of musical inspirations and current favourites.
Rocky and Diesel first rose to underground prominence in 1993, with their tracks Muzik Express and London Xpress; and later enjoyed mainstream success with their Number 2 smash Lazy, which featured David Byrne from Talking Heads.
Having returned to the studio, the duo released their highly anticipated third album, The House Of X-Press 2 last year. In this programme Rocky and Diesel play material that has inspired their productions, alongside some current dancefloor favourites.”

DJ Yoda – 6 Mix 2013-06-14

“The pioneer of the bootleg ‘cut-up’ mixing style, DJ Yoda, takes to the 6 Mix for two hours of turntable trickery with a special visual show that you can listen to on 6 Music or watch live via Red Button and the 6 Music website.
Duncan Beiny aka DJ Yoda is not just a scratch DJ. His seminal ‘How To Cut & Paste’ series showcased a tongue-in-cheek mixing style. From releasing his debut album, ‘The Amazing Adventures Of DJ Yoda’ in 2006, he has also released five instalments of his ‘How To Cut and Paste’ mix CD series, the first of which came out in 2001. Alongside these, his latest artist album ‘Chop Suey’ came out at the end of last year.
With influences that range from Funk, Reggae and Drum ‘n’ Bass to Big Band Swing and Country & Western, and having played alongside artists such as Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson and Fatboy Slim this 2 hours of samples and scratching has the potential to be very varied indeed!
In this programme, DJ Yoda will be talking to Nemone about some of his hip hop and video influences, performing a live visual set and will also premiering his new How To Cut & Paste mix. All of the action will be unfolding live on Red Button, online at the 6 Music website and on the radio. DJ Yoda will also be tweeting along during the show so, to get involved, tweet @BBC6Music and hashtag #Yoda6Mix.”

Sasha – 6 Mix 2013-05-10

“6 Mix celebrates Dance Pioneers, continuing with Sasha.
Throughout the month of May, 6 Mix will be shining a light on a selection of Dance Pioneers, which kicked off with Grandmaster Flash and continues this week with Sasha.
Born and raised in a small town in Wales, Sasha grew up listening to Motown records. It wasn’t until a visit to the legendary club, Hacienda, that he was first exposed to house music. The sound had such an impact on him, that he moved to Manchester to start his path towards Djing.
His first break came when he was offered a residency at Stokes legendary club Shelly’s, where he enthralled clubbers with his Italian House selections. It was at Shelly’s where Sasha met John Digweed. The pair have DJed together to millions of clubbers, all across the globe and have released a successful series of mix albums, which first surfaced in 1994.
Sasha has produced multiple UK-charting singles and has also been responsible for some huge remixes, for artists such as Madonna, The Chemical Brothers, Hot Chip and Felix Da Housecat. The latter, ‘Watching Cars Go By’, earned him a Grammy nomination in 2004. Fast-forward to 2013, where Sasha Involver 3, earlier this year. The album lies at the half way point between a mix album and an original work, featuring remixes of The xx, Little Dragon, Foals and James Zabiela alongside some unheard exclusives.
In this special 6 Mix, Sasha takes to the 6 Music decks for two hours playing a selection of musical influences and tunes from his DJ travels.”

Juan Atkins – 6 Mix 2013-04-19

“The Godfather of Techno, Juan Atkins, takes to the 6 Mix decks for two hours.
Atkins is widely regarded as one of the originators of Techno music, along with Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson. The trio, often referred to as the Belleville Three, attended high school together in Belleville, Michigan, near Detroit. Growing up, they all regularly tuned in to DJ Charles ‘The Electrifying Mojo’ Johnson’s radio show, which has been cited as a big influence on their musical development.
After being inspired by hearing electronic music for the first time, Atkins bought synthesizer and learned how to mix; DJing alongside Derrick May under the moniker Deep Space Soundworks. He has also released music under the names Model 500, Infiniti and Cybotron, over an impressive career.
In this programme, Atkins takes to the 6 Music airwaves playing a selection of musical influences and also handpicking some current tracks form his record box.”

Tiga – 6 Mix 2013-04-05

“Canada’s electro ambassador, Tiga, returns to his 6 Mix residency where he explores his love of synthesized music past, present and future.
Based in Montreal, Tiga’s introduction to dance music came with the early 90s rave scene which inspired him to become a club DJ and set up his own label.
In the last decade he has become one of the most prolific producers in the world, remixing tracks by Soulwax, Fever Ray and The xx as well as releasing inspired covers of Nelly and Corey Hart.
Towards the end of last year, Tiga released his new single Plush which was remixed by Jacques Lu Cont and features on his recent mix album Tiga Non Stop, which was his first official mix CD in more than five years.
Ahead of a string of European dates this April, Tiga gets back behind the 6 Mix decks for two hours of fresh music from the dancefloors.”
