Tony Allen

Gilles Peterson Worldwide 2012-04-28 With Drummer Tony Allen

“Gilles Peterson continues to join the dots on his new 6 Music show, playing tracks from the worlds of jazz, funk, soul, hip hop, and house.
This week, he’s joined by Nigerian drummer extraordinaire, Tony Allen, for an hour of words and Afrobeat music. They discuss Tony’s long and esteemed career, which began with Fela Kuti in Lagos, back in the mid-1960s, as a member of the legendary Africa 70 band.
Having featured on over 30 of the group’s albums over a 20 year period, more recently Tony has collaborated with Damon Albarn on The Good, The Bad & The Queen project of 2004, before once again teaming up with Albarn on his Rocketjuice and The Moon project.”
