Freak Zone Playlist 2021-07-22 by Dismiss Yourself

“Dismiss Yourself deliver their take on experimental music. Originating as a YouTube account in 2017, Dismiss Yourself began life as a space where it’s founder sticki could archive strange and surreal stuff he found online, from bootlegs, to rare recordings the archive grew out of a love of finding space for music that wasn’t uploaded anywhere else. The channel largely flew under the radar until Covid struck and suddenly music fans were flocking to the site, building a community who were intrigued by the weirdness they found. Soon artists were asking sticki if he could release their music, which led to bandcamp and that’s where we found him and his wonderful world.”

Freak Zone Playlist 2021-07-15 by No Home

“No Home is the moniker of experimental DIY producer Charlotte Valentine, who makes unique punk tracks from their base in London. They describe the concept of their latest release ‘F….. Hel’l as “ imagine you’re the devil who spent thousands of years in hell and you’re trying to redeem yourself. How do you turn this dehumanised person or this dehumanised beast into an actual human being in the world amongst mortals?”. The answer it would seem is through thrilling, probing proto punk and experimentation. Off the back of hearing that thrilling record, we invited No Home to select the tracks for this 60 minute playlist and share the music that inspires them and their sound.”

In this playlist William Hutson takes us on a 60 minute journey that celebrates the experimental nature of hip-hop, a genre that is always exploring new sounds, breaking boundaries and challenging the mainstream, featuring tracks from Backxwash, Nicki Minaj, Dälek and B L A C K I E.”

Freak Zone Playlist 2021-04-29 by MOOF Magazine

“Underground psychedelia, esoteric witchcraft records and Cornish acid folk put together by the magazine’s founder Melanie Xulu. Melanie has been digging in bargain bins of record shops and seeking out rare LP records since she was 15 years old, now aged 21 she is the founder and editor of MOOF Magazine. Inspired by the acid-drenched countercultural magazines of the 1960s and 70s such as Oz and Gandalf’s Garden, MOOF’s goal is to keep the underground press alive and weird.”

Freak Zone Playlist 2021-04-22 by Big | Brave

“A wide-ranging and surprising selection of music which has been a foundational influence on the heavy distortion drone music of Big | Brave. Including the driving and sincere vocals of soul singer Wendy Rene; the stunning and precise swaying movement of Duke Ellington and John Coltrane on the jazz standard In A Sentimental Mood and minimal post rock from Rockets Red Glare which leads into the static harmonic and repeating rhythms of Steve Reich.”

Freak Zone Playlist 2021-03-11 Chelsea Wolfe presents women in heavy music

“A selection of female-fronted heavy rock, metal and noise handpicked by American songwriter Chelsea Wolfe. Chelsea’s own music blends elements of gothic rock, doom metal, and folk music into haunting and atmospheric songs. Featuring radical and wondrous vocals from Karina Utomo and her group High Tension, Lingua Ignota brings out the desperation in the lyrics to Dolly Parton’s Jolene with a slowed down version accompanied by crunchy guitar arpeggios and there’s heavy riffs and catchy melodies from Dallas’ True Widow.”
