Diplo is a huge influential mover and shaker within the music industry. Starting from humble beginnings as a disc-jockey, Diplo has added record producer, singer, song writer, and record executive to his resume. In addition to his many accomplishments, Diplo has founded the record company Mad Decent and built The Mausoleum which is a video studio, recording studio, record label office, gallery and event space in Philadelphia – the spot has become home for chart topping artists such as Christina Aguilera, Shakira, and M.I.A.
Diplo studied film and music at Temple University in Philadelphia – he has made a home in the city for his musical endeavors and exploration. At Temple, Diplo had an opportunity to dive into his passion for film and has even told GQ Magazine that he would love to take a year off and strictly focus on film work.
The award winning record producer is also an active fan of the Los Angeles Clippers. Diplo has showcased his fandom for the NBA team on Snapchat and Instagram. He has performed with Skrillex and Kai at the Staples Center during half time at Clippers games in 2015 – tickets can be found at See Tickets.
Diplo has worked on production and mix-tape projects with Gwen Stefani, Usher, Wale, Big Sean, Snoop Dogg, Chris Brown and a number of other mainstream artists. In 2016, Diplo co-produced two tracks on Beyoncé’s sixth studio album Lemonade. Billboard also featured the gifted producer and executive on the cover of the American Billboard’s June 9, 2016 cover. The feature highlighted the success and milestones that Diplo has achieved and how he continues to produce chart topping hits with artists across various genres of music.
Many may not know it, but Diplo founded Heaps Decent which is a charity he uses as a social relief program to help children in Australia as well as other locations internationally. Diplo spent a majority of his life in Miami and has said that the influence of home grown rap has single handedly played a key role in shaping his production style and creative juices.
There’s no doubt that Diplo seems to have a hand in bringing up every other new artist we’ve seen in electronic, hip-hop, and dubstep. He has single handedly created some of the biggest club hits and produced some of the most post well-known remixes of songs – shaping into one of the best multi-talented artists of our day and age.
