“This Monday’s FACT mix takes the form of an expert techno session from the one and only Rolando. Rolando hails from Detroit’s Hispanic district, equally influenced by the rhythms of his Latin upbringing and the techno that has been in the city’s blood since the late ’80s. He joined the legendary Underground Resistance stable around 1994, releasing one of the label’s biggest ever tracks in 1997′s ‘Knights of the Jaguar’ – a stone cold classic that also prompted one of dance music’s greatest scandals, when Sony released a “tone by tone” cover of the track after UR refused to license it to them.”

“I recorded the mix while in NYC. The mix was done using Ableton software, UC-33 Midi mixer controller and a Novation Launchpad. I had wanted to have a go at creating a multi-song layered mix for quite a while now—something where throughout the majority of the mix you would have at least two records riding over one another at any given time. When I perform live at events I use Ableton and controllers. For my DJ gigs I prefer to keep the setups separated. I still also love DJing on Technic 1200s. I feel more in tune with the audience using two decks, a mixer and the pitch controls. However, I do feel there are more possibilities with using Abelton and a controller. You can really get into multi-layering tracks in a way that can’t be done on turntables. So I wanted to make a mix in a different way than I could using turntables.”

“Sepalcure consists of Brooklyn based duo Praveen Sharma and Travis Stewart (aka Machinedrum). The two have worked together for years running the Cassette NYC club night, as well as the reputable online mix archive Percussion Lab. This led to a cathartic two-week collaboration, where they combined their love of tribal dub, soulful 90s house and UK bass. The outcome of their streamlined teamwork was going on to be released as the ‘Love Pressure EP’ on Scuba’s Hotflush Recordings.
