Released in July 1998, four years after the band’s previous album, Ill Communication, ‘Hello Nasty’ marked the addition of DMC champion Mix Master Mike to the group’s line-up. The title for the album was allegedly inspired by the receptionist of their NY-based publicity firm Nasty Little Man who would answer the phone with the greeting “Hello Nasty”. The art cover depicts all three members – Michael “Mike D” Diamond (vocals, drums), Adam “MCA” Yauch (vocals, bass) and Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz (vocals, guitar) – wrapped in an aluminium sardine tin and getting baked in the sun. ‘Hello Nasty’ reached number one in the UK album charts and soundtracked the Summer of 1998.
