Don Letts 2016-07-10 Culture Clash Radio with Mikey Dread

“The Don’s selections cross time, space and genre and include Mikey Dread. Each week, as well as blending key new releases with classics from the UK, USA, Jamaica, Africa and beyond, Don highlights a piece of Crucial Vinyl – a cherished album from his own collection. He explains why it means so much to him and features three key tracks. This week he selects World War III, released in 1980 by Mikey Dread. Don says, “The late great Mikey Dread started out as a radio DJ in Kingston, Jamaica with a show called ‘Dread at the Controls’ (Lee Scratch Perry actually produced his signature tune of the same name). Mikey went on to produce records for, and tour with, The Clash. This album is a perfect example of his innovative production and studio techniques, which first caught the ear of a young Paul Simonon whilst listening to his treasured C-90 cassette tapes of Mikey’s legendary radio show.”.”
