“This mix represents my current musical standpoint. It is a snapshot of my past, present and future. I’ve included various old and new tracks that have influenced me over the course of my musical career. It features a lot of exclusive music from producers who I find are pushing things forward and stand within my musical beliefs and aspirations. I’ve included exclusive material from my 2nd full length album “Chroma Chords”, forthcoming on Shogun Audio, alongside some of my older material and a few specifically picked tracks that shaped my musical influence and direction. “‘Will Saul is the DJ and Producer behind two of the best underground labels in the land, Simple Records and Aus Music. Between the two imprints there have been over 100 releases from artists like Joy Orbison, Carl Craig, Pearson Sound and Scuba, as well as EPs from upcoming talents like Bicep, Dusky, Midland and George FitzGerald.
As a producer in his own right, Saul is about to embark on a brand new project called Close, which sees his second artist album ‘Getting Closer’ released on K7 in June, accompanied by a new live show featuring Bristol producer Al Tourettes playing live drums.
This mix features brand new material from Close, as well as from Midland, Dense & Pika, Sej, Youandewan and George Fitzgerald.”

“A couple of months ago, when we heard that we were going to get to mix our first Essential Mix, we had absolutely no idea what we were going to do. It’s a very big deal for us to do this mix. We decided to use a lot of old records and tracks that we really liked when we first started playing together in our hometown in Poland. That’s why, for example, we asked Jacek Sienkiewicz to send us ‘Dream Machine’ and also why we included Michael Mayer ‘Speaker’.
There is a lot of old vinyl that we included especially for our Essential Mix. Harry Kane, T-RWKR, Arto Mwambe, Needs, Terry Brooks and one of our all time favourite records from Alex Cortex that we even edited specially. We really have to thank Axel Boman for introducing us to Bassroots ‘Good Life’ and Marcin Czubala because we discovered Sofrito Specials through him.
There is something from our label Pets Recordings, that our friend Nikola Baytala from San Francisco will put out at the end of May. It will be his first EP for many years and this track is probably one of the most trippy things we’ve ever released. That’s why we love it so much! There are a lot of tracks in the mix that have their own story but, for now, we’re gonna let the music speak for itself’. Catz ‘n Dogz, April 2013.”

Oh, yes! Been waiting for this one. Time for some old school dubstep from Mala!
“Mala is a founder member of dubstep pioneers Digital Mystikz and the legendary dubstep night DMZ. He released some of the very first dubstep records on his DMZ label and Hatcha’s Big Apple Records and was a key player on Mary Anne Hobbs seminal Dubstep Warz radio show in 2006, alongside a young Skream & Benga!
He remains as vital as ever to bass music, releasing one of 2012’s best albums ‘Mala in Cuba’ on Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Recordings, a dubstep-meets-live-cuban-rhythms soundclash.”

As owners of the Moda Black label, they’ve introduced some of the UKs best emerging talent of recent years, including Hot Since 82, Disclosure and Shadow Child. “Cedric Gervais is a French born, Florida based DJ & Producer. He became the youngest ever resident at Paris’ famous Queen club when he was just 15 years old, before moving to Miami in the late nineties. He’s been a resident at some of the city’s most iconic venues, including Crobar (now Cameo), Nikki Beach and Space. As a producer he has worked with and remixed the likes of Lenny Kraviz and Lana Del Ray. And he was behind the infectious ‘Molly’, which was infamously name checked on stage by Madonna.”

“Dragan Roganovi?, aka DIrty South, is an Australian DJ and Producer. He’s behind tracks like Alive and Eyes Wide Open with Thomas Gold and City Of Dreams with Alesso. He’s been nominated for two Grammy Awards and has several Essential New Tunes to his name!
He’s collaborated with the likes of David Guetta and Axwell. He’s lent his remixing skills to everyone from U2 to Nero. And he’s responsible for the remix that arguably made the Diddy Dirty Money tune Coming Home. He runs his own label Phazing and he’s just released his first ever artist album called Speed Of Life.

“”Even though I play a lot of live shows, I also really enjoy making DJ mixes. Apart from my earlier productions, and Coma Cat!, a lot of people know me from my very first Resident Advisor mix, which really did help to changes things career-wise for me.
And this one is no different. As ever, there is a certain sound and sensibility that I like in my music, but I also like the odd curveball, like opening with that really stunning track from Alice Coltrane called ‘Krishna’. I would say the first hour is super-deep and mellow and the second really kicks up a gear, so it’s a game of two halves!
I’ve included new music from people like Medlar and Martin Patino, as well as new productions from my forthcoming artist album, which will be out later in the year. I have to say, I’m super-happy with my Essential Mix. It has groove and depth and doesn’t take any obvious routes… I hope you enjoy it too”.

“Mat Zo makes his Essential Mix debut with a seventy track spectacular. He says of the experience:
“I started making music when I was eight. And I started DJing when I was a teenager after a special music class. DJ Pied Piper came in and taught us all how to mix and from that moment i was hooked! All the music in the (essential) mix is stuff that has inspired me or stuff that is hardwired into my brain from listening to it so much! There are also new tracks that give me hope in the music industry. I started laying down tracks and seeing where the mix would go and it was a really experimental process in a lot of ways. I chose tracks that wouldn’t necessarily would go together in a club set, but would work as something you would listen to on a day-to-day basis”. Mat Zo, February 2013.”

“”Hi, I’m Metrik and I’m an electronic music producer from London, UK. One of my main aims with this mix was to keep the selection as fresh as possible by sourcing new music from my favourite producers and labels in drum & bass and beyond.
The mix includes a lot of my own tunes and remixes as well as some unreleased, previously unheard material, including my collaboration with ShockOne called ‘Lazerbeam’ and ‘Flightwave VIP’. There are also some unreleased projects which I’ve been working on recently in the studio and some brand new and exclusive tracks from High Contrast, Ed Rush, Dirtyphonics, ShockOne, Killsonik, Skrillex, Cyantific, Dimension, Brookes Brothers, Flux Pavillion, Opiuo, DC Breaks, Danny Byrd and Roni Size.
I’ve included some things I wouldn’t normally play in a one hour DJ set and have tried to reflect a wide spectrum, covering dance floor, downtempo and some deeper sounds. Hopefully the mix serves as a snapshot of some of the best new music around and what’s to come over 2013″.
