Kingdom podcast #188 for XLR8R – bass music

Here is a really nice “bass music” podcast that Kingdom has done for XLR8R. Tons of good tunes including from himself, Bok Bok, Girl Unit and Jam City.
“Even in the increasingly crowded world of bass music, Kingdom is an artist without many real peers. Sure, he’s one of the leading members of the London-based Night Slugs cadre, but this American DJ and producer—who has also released music on the Fool’s Gold imprint—sports a diverse sound arsenal that relies heavily on three things: unusual bass permutations, inventive drum patterns, and, perhaps most importantly, an unabashed love of hip-hop and R&B. All of those elements play major roles in this exclusive mix for the XLR8R podcast series, a DJ session that happens to include a whole lot of unreleased Kingdom material. It all comes as the one-time Brooklyn artist—who now splits time between New York and Los Angeles—prepares to head out on a sizable North American tour, a trek that includes multiple gigs at SXSW, stops on both coasts, and some Canadian dates with Night Slugs bretheren Bok Bok and Girl Unit. If his DJ sets on the road resemble this podcast in the least, Kingdom is going to leave a lot of happy dancefloor revelers in his wake.”

Dubpressure on MoS Radio 2011-03-07 – dubstep hosted by Kion

“Dubpressure: The long-standing club night run by Unlikely, Letty, Dom and Kion of Clandestine Cultivations. Starting in 2005, it grew to become Brighton’s premier dubstep event, and thanks to the resident Gramps soundsystem one of UK’s best for deep bass – drawing regular roadblock crowds to the numerous seafront venues it has held residence in over the years.”

FACT mix 228 by KiNK

“Resident Advisor, in the past, have described KiNK as making “old school sounds with a modern edge”, and 2010 saw the Bulgarian producer fulfill that promise with more zest than ever before. He re-imagined Jeff Mills’ ‘Changes of Life’ as a skippy, modern ecstasy screamer in ‘Existence’ (our #9 track of 2010, no less), and lit up dancefloors worldwide with takes on acid, filter-heavy house, Aphex and more that stayed true to the sounds’ original agendas while adding the sort of twists that only a man with a serious understanding of modern software and hardware could.”

Resident Advisor podcast #249 by Discodeine

“Discodeine is French producers Cédric Marszewski and Benjamin Morando, who are more commonly known as Pilooski and Pentile. The duo have been releasing a colourful brand of club music under the name since 2008’s Joystick EP, and have just put-out a self-titled album, which called upon the vocal talents of Jarvis Coker, Baxter Dury and Matias Aguayo. Pilooski built a name for himself in his own right during the ’00s, thanks largely to his Dirty Edits series and remixes for LCD Soundsystem and Mystery Jets. While less widely recognized, Pentile was part of several recording projects at the beginning of the last decade—Octet, France Copland and solo as Morando.”

6 Mix 2011-03-06 Laurent Garnier

“French techno icon and DJ Laurent Garnier steps up to the 6 Mix decks for a journey through his life in dance music. Laurent began clubbing whilst living in Paris in the late 1970s, but it wasn’t until moving to Manchester in the mid 1980s that he discovered acid house music. He ended up as a regular DJ at the Hacienda alongside Mike Pickering and Graeme Park, but returned to Paris in the early 90s to begin a career as a successful producer in his own right. Since then Laurent has DJed all over the world with residencies at clubs including Ministry of Sound and The End, presented his own weekly radio show and released seminal tunes including ‘Crispy Bacon’ and ‘The Man With Red Face’ on his own label, F Communications. In his first ever 6 Mix, Laurent plays a selection of the bleeps and beats which inspired him to become a DJ alongside a set of contemporary techno and house music.”
