6 Mix 2011-03-20 Ladytron and Holy Ghost

“Holy Ghost & Ladytron take to the decks for a 6 Mix synth spectacular, playing a selection of electronic music past, present and future. Liverpool electro quartet Ladytron emerged from the ashes of the electroclash scene in the early 2000s, taking their cues from the Liverpool scene that gave birth to OMD and the infamous Eric’s nightclub enshrined by Yazoo. As they prepare to release a retrospective of their last decade’s work, including cult singles ‘Playgirl’ and ‘Seventeen’ the band discuss their journey in electronic music and play a selection of the synth sounds which inspired them. Support comes from hotly tipped Brooklyn electro duo and in demand remid remixers, Holy Ghost. Signed to James Murphy’s influential DFA label, the band made their first visit to the UK this month supporting Cut Copy. As they prepare to release their debut album, the band play a selection of music which has informed their sound, including New Order, Depeche Mode and Talking Heads, alongside current favourites from Nic Chacona, Sh Robot, and Midnight Magic. Ladytron also provided last week’s Lunch Time Loves Playlist on Nemone’s show.”

FACT mix 231 by Computer Jay

“California’s full of overlooked beat-makers bordering on genius, and one of the best around is Computer Jay. As is often the case, Computer Jay spreads his talent across various projects, including studio collaborations with Steve Cooper, Dam-Funk (he’s also a part of Dam’s live band) and Sa-Ra’s Shafiq Husayn, as well as various members of the magic circle of Los Angeles’ crate-digging community. With a vast musical range that takes in boogie, G-Funk, classic computer games and everything in between, we consider him one of music’s most underrated, and when Phonica offered us the chance to host this live recording, from last year’s party they threw with Ramp Recordings, who’ll be releasing a new Computer Jay album this year titled Switched ON, we jumped at it.”

Resident Advisor Exchange RA.EX024 with Paul Woolford

“What comes to mind when you see the name Paul Woolford? It’s something the man himself often contemplates. He’s had more than his fair share of indelible associations after all. Whether it was his ties to Basics and 20:20 Vision in Leeds, his long-standing residency at We Love Sundays in Ibiza or his ubiquitous 2005 club-smash “Erotic Discourse,” for better or worse it seems preconceptions abound when it comes to Woolford.
And as RA’s Ryan Keeling sat down to talk in Berlin ahead of his gig at Berghain that evening, it was time for him to ruminate over his latest association—that of Carl Craig and his Planet E imprint. After handing Craig a demo back in 2009, Woolford is about release with the legendary Detroit imprint, and has subsequently been asked to join them on tour in celebration of the label’s 20th anniversary all over the world, including next month’s annual Snowbombing event.”
