Solid Steel Show 2011-07-01 Coldcut and Boca 45

“This week Coldcut return to the show and it’s a live DJ set from Matt Black at the Energy Union party in Brussels earlier this year. It starts with classic selections from Kwanzaa Posse, Armando Trovajol, Mr Scruff and a KC Flightt hip house track from ’87. Then it’s a more recent cut with the Redshape remix of Martyn’s ‘Seventy Four’ and we keep the pace with DJ Naughty, the epic Seiji mix of ‘Timber’, Joy Orbison and another track from Martyn, before dropping down with Ed Solo, Bassnectar and The Bug. In hour 2 we welcome back Boca 45 and it’s been a while since his last 7? only mix so he thought that in these days of slick Ableton mixes, it was time to take it “Back to the crackle”. We get to hear a choice mix of 45 x 7? vinyl records that range from Stezo, Mongo Santamaria, Tom Jones to Gary Newman, The Upsetters and Coldcut. As Jimi Hendrix once said “There’s only 2 types of music, Good and Bad” Enjoy”

Tom Ravenscroft 2011-07-01 guest mix from SBTRKT

“Features a guest mix from London based electronic producer SBTRKT. He prefers to remain anonymous as he wants the music to speak for itself. He releases his self titled debut album at the end of June. A very special performance this week comes from poet, playwright and novelist Simon Armitage CBE. He has specially recorded a reading of his poem ‘The Sighting Of The Century’ for the show.”

Resident Advisor Exchange RA.EX044 with Matthias Tanzmann

“The Moon Harbour boss chats about ping-pong, Ibiza and permanent funk. Dance music thrives on reliability, and few are as sure-handed as Moon Harbour boss Matthias Tanzmann. The tech and deep house devotee has made a name for himself via a high-profile residency at DC-10’s Circoloco party over the past few years, but he cut his teeth in Leipzig. The Distillery, the German city’s finest club, was his training ground, and it was there that he learned the value of consistency. He’s shown as much via his aforementioned Moon Harbour imprint, which celebrated its tenth anniversary last year, as well as its housier sister label Cargo Edition. With a constantly full touring diary that includes a headlining performance alongside Davide Squillace and Martin Buttrich at this year’s Exit Festival under their joint moniker Better Lost Than Stupid, it’s clear that Tanzmann’s hard work is paying off.”
