David Rodigan on BBC Radio 2 2011-07-14

David Rodigan showcases his love for all types of reggae music in a new ten-part series for Radio 2. With an hour of classic roots and reggae music from the 60s to the present day, Rodigan celebrates reggae’s back catalogue and looks to its future.
Playing the best in reggae, roots, ska and rocksteady, each song will be linked by Rodigan’s encyclopaedic knowledge and warm reflective stories from reggae music’s history. There will also be guests and live sessions from classic artists.
Rodigan is a hero to Jamaican music lovers here in the UK and right across the world. With his unique style and love for the genre, Rodigan has been at the top of his game for over 30 years. He has a massive following and is recognised as the authority in reggae broadcasting. There is no reggae artist Rodigan hasn’t interviewed and his contacts in Jamaica and across the world are unbeatable.
In part one, David introduces himself to the Radio 2 audience and plays a mix of iconic reggae tunes from his personal archive. The music includes Jamaica’s 1960s Rock Steady anthem by the legendary Alton Ellis, along with a roots rock reggae re-mix of Bob Marley and the Wailers’ Sun Is Shining and Barrington Levy’s first big Jamaican smash-hit alongside current hits from Beres Hammond and Tarrus Riley.”

Solid Steel Show 2011-07-15 Stagga, Goldie and DK

“This week’s mix features Stagga from Rag & Bone Records, who has already had tracks from his excellent album “The Warm Air Room” played on the show. We start with The Weeknd and the RnB tinged ‘The Morning’, with funky beats from CRST close behind. Classic techno from Sweet Exorcist on Warp keeps it dark and then into the first Stagga track ‘Prehistoric UFO rhythm’, followed by music from Starkey, Ramadanman, Debruit and the twisted sounds of Death Grips. Then it’s a couple from DJ Roc and more productions and remixes from Stagga to close the first hour. In hour 2 Metalheadz don Goldie drops a mix to celebrate the release of his Fabric Live mix CD and it’s straight in with the soulful vibe of Marcus Intalex & ST Files and D Kay & Lee. Then it’s back to ’94 with Dillinja and we continue in a 90?s vein with Boymerang, Doc Scott and classic Goldie, before closing with Rufige Kru. DK steps in to close the show with a look at recent and upcoming tracks from the vast Ninja Tune, Big Dada, Counter and Brainfeeder stable. Tracks from the Samiyam and Wiley albums are followed by the Two Fingers mix of Amon Tobin’s new single ‘Surge’. Mr Scruff is on ‘Wobble control’ and Toddla T gets an Andrew Wetherall remix on ‘Watch me dance’ with Roots Manuva’s version shortly after. Then it’s forthcoming singles from Martyn, Raffertie and Offshore before ending on the accoustic sounds of Jono McCleery and Fink.”

Resident Advisor Exchange RA.EX046 Tim Xavier

From eyeliner to parachute pants to techno: The Clink and Manmade Mastering boss tells his story. You may have never heard Tim Xavier’s music, but you’ve likely heard music he’s mastered. Via his Manmade Mastering studio, Xavier has a hand in hundreds of house and techno records each year. It’s experience that has served him well in his own productions: Of late Xavier has largely released music via Clink, the imprint that he shares with his girlfriend Camea, and his own LTD400 label. As RA’s Will Lynch found out late last month, though, Xavier’s history runs deep in American techno through stints in Chicago and New York. Now residing in Berlin, they caught up to talk about Xavier’s work in and out of the limelight.”
