“Jamz is joined by Portuguese DJ and producer Branko for Back To My Roots ahead of the release of his third album, OBG, which is a love letter to the community and landscape of his home country. Having grown up in the city of Amadora, near Lisbon, Branko specialises in elevating the unique club music hybrids from the local area, including forms of kuduro, kizomba, zouk, baile funk and more. Initially achieving success as part of the electronic dance music collective Buraka Som Sistema, Branko has also released two solo albums as well as curating for festivals such as Lisbon’s Enchufada Na Zona and Sonar. Then in the last half hour, Jamz throws down a live Weekend Warm Up Mix. No theme, just straight up dancefloor vibes with an eclectic high tempo mix of percussive house, rap-infused club, footwork from Egypt and South African gqom plus much more.

She goes Back to my Roots with London based singer-songwriter, illustrator and sculptor Alewya. Born in Saudi Arabia to an Egyptian and Ethiopian parents, she then moved to Sudan before settling in London as a refugee. Her music is influenced by the sounds she grew up with, mixed with the ambient alternative rock music she heard through her brother’s bedroom wall. She’s collaborated with the likes of Shy FX, Moses Boyd, and Little Simz on their 2020 track ‘where’s my lighter’ and supported her on her UK tour last year. Her debut 6-track EP ‘Panther In Mode’ was released last year and we had to get her on the show to take her back to the sounds of where her career began. Following this, Jamz jumps on the decks to share the Weekend Warm Up Mix which this week celebrates old skool and nu skool Jungle.
