Voyage with Zakia through a spacey synth-filled soundtrack for your Sunday night, filled with celestial sounds, spiritual New Age chants and psychedelic wig-outs. Expect some radiophonic experiments from Delia Derbyshire, organ instrumentals from Mamman Sani, and brand-new Buchla experiments from Maria Teriaeva.
All these synthesized sounds are in honour of this week’s special guest – the electronic music pioneer Suzanne Ciani. One of the first people to work with the Buchla modular synthesiser in the early 1970s, Suzanne is known for her otherworldly soundscapes, New Age experiments and iconic TV adverts. For Dream Time, she shares some dreams and transports us to an alien world via one of her own compositions.”

There’ll be some fuzzy children’s folk, a tea ceremony from Ukraine, and playground chants from Haiti, as well as some new releases from the likes of My Jazzy Child and Rattle.

Plus a very special Dreambience mix conjured up by the weird and wonderful Stroud duo Mermaid Chunky, aka Freya Tate and Moina Moin. For Dream Time, they’ve crafted an audio adventure through what they describe as “a landscape of feverish hibernation and deep winter nostalgia” – featuring dreams and music from their family and friends, surreal poetry, 70s children’s TV soundtracks and plenty of homemade instruments.”

Born in Colorado, she became famous in the Bay Area of California in the late 70s and 80s for her regular playing covers of pop classics on a vintage accordion and a Casio keyboard, and wearing a distinctive winged helmet. As the evenings get darker and the night closes in, we prepare for Samhain with a Dream Time that dabbles a little more in shadow. Samhain is a pagan festival with Celtic roots that marks the start of winter, known to most as Halloween. It’s a time when the veil is thin between us and other realms, and so Zakia conjures the spirits with some spooky selections of eerie folk, spectral sounds and spiritual dub.
