“Stuart looks back on the Virginian post-rock band’s 1999 minimalist landmark album E Luxo So, comprising six instrumental tracks that make a poignant and restrained record. Instrumental contributions come from a string quartet, gorgeous bubbly electronic piano, dulcimer arrangements, subtle blips of percussion and plangent organ. An engrossing and hypnotic listen, E Luxo So was Labradford’s most overt move towards ambient music.
Elsewhere on the show, Peter Brötzmann’s explosive free jazz saxophone inspired by the mechanisms of war, radiophonic soundtracks to cult 1970’s children’s TV and heartwarming outsider pop from Freak Zone favourite Arthur Russell.”
