“1988 marks the 30th anniversary of the ‘Second Summer of Love’ – one of the most extraordinary musical movements the UK has ever experienced. Nemone plays classic tunes, and chats to the key people involved with the Ibiza dance scene of the 80s, finding out how the sound of the island found its way back to UK clubs and raves.
Nemone’s ‘Resident DJ’ is Nicky Holloway – he was one of the four DJs (alongside Danny Rampling, Paul Oakenfold and Johnny Walker) who went on holiday to Ibiza in the Summer of 1987 and experienced “Superclub” Amnesia for the first time. They were introduced to the unique and eclectic style of DJ Alfredo Fiorito’s sets which included pop, soul, funk, and jazz, along with emerging house music, then being exported from America. The friends returned home to London and set about recreating their experience and the sounds that Alfredo, the father of the Balearic Beat, had introduced to them. Danny Rampling set up what is regarded as the UK’s first Balearic rave, a clubnight called Shoom, which took place in a disused fitness centre in Southwark, and Paul Oakenfold hosted an “Ibiza Reunion” party which evolved into one of the UK’s major acid house nights, Spectrum, at Heaven in Charing Cross. Nicky Holloway shares his favourite ‘warm up’,’floor filler’ and ‘wind down’ tracks, the ones that takes him back to those early, hedonistic days.
There’s also an exclusive, super-nostalgic Shoom Summer of Love classics mix from Danny Rampling. Put on your tie-dye, don a smiley face, and rave into the small hours as Nemone, and friends, take you on a nostalgic trip.”
