“Award-winning composer and performer Mira Calix joins Mary Anne to talks about her experience creating a new sound art installation in China.
‘Moving Museum 35’ is a collaborative project between Mira and students from the School of Media Art and Communication department of Nanjing University of the Arts. Together they have spent six weeks transforming a bus into a “museum”, where participants are encouraged to create artworks in their own imaginations from the sounds played to them during the journey, and from anything they see both inside and out of the vehicle.
Prior to this, Mira has released five albums through Warp Records, and has been commissioned to write pieces for the London Sinfonietta, the Aldeburgh Festival, The Royal Shakespeare Company, Opera North and The Manchester International Festival. In 2009, she won a British Composer Award and a Royal Philharmonic Society award for her composition “My Secret Heart”.”
