Wilson Pickett had been sent down to Memphis to learn how to get ‘down and dirty’. And you can’t look at the Funk & Soul Years in the mid-60s without looking at the state of the American nation. 1965 was a huge year, a year that saw the Selma Marches, The Watts Riots and the Voting Rights Act prohibiting racial discrimination in voting.”
