Currently performing with his Gondwana Orchestra, Matthew takes on several musical guises, and made his name first and foremost on the UK jazz scene. Now he’s slowing things down and taking his pointers from soul and soundtracks with the wonderful ‘Into Forever’ album. He’ll be performing tracks for us live with extraordinary vocalist Joesphine Oniyama.”

“Gilles brings his unique, world-tinged flavours to daytime 6 Music. Joined for live music by Zimbabwe-born, Lewisham-raised Eska, whose self-titled debut has made this year’s Mercury Prize shortlist.
Since the release of her Matthew Herbert-produced debut EP, Gatekeeper, in 2013, Eska has been generating a hefty amount of buzz. She has provided guest vocals and songwriting duties for the like of Grace Jones, Zero 7, The Cinematic Orchestra and Tony Allen, and finally, earlier this year, released her long-awaited self-titled debut album. The album was made with producer Louis “Slipperz” Hackett and Dave Okumu (singer/guitarist in Mercury nominees The Invisible, and producer for Jessie Ware), and has drawn comparisons to Kate Bush, Erykah Badu, and Lee Scratch Perry – a list eclectic enough to suggest that Eska’s sound is, in fact, entirely her own.”

Jamie first received acclaim for Night Air, a Burial-produced single, in 2010; the same year he released his debut album Mirrorwriting. Four years on, he is set to return with his second album release, Making Time. The first single from it, called Sharpness, has been supported across 6 Music from the likes of Lauren Laverne, Mary Anne Hobbs and Gilles. Jamie performs two live tracks at the 6 Music studios and talks about the process behind writing the new material.”

“Back in 2012, Glaswegian musician Auntie Flo quietly released a mini-album to much critical acclaim. Three years later, and after numerous releases for Huntleys & Palmers, Autonomous Africa, Highlife and Permanent Vacation, he returns with his first extended body of work.
Theory of Flo takes its lead from Hungarian psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi’s ‘Theory of Flow’, which preaches the art of living in the moment. In Auntie Flo’s case, this is done with one eye on the dancefloor, taking its cue from styles, rhythms, vocalists and musicians from around the world. In partnership with South African producer Esa, it was recorded over a two-year period in Havana, Glasgow and London and has numerous contributors from around the world. After premiering a track from the album last month, it seemed like the next logical step to invite him in for a Worldwide mixtape. We’re told this is made up of tracks that inspired the making of his album, as well as a couple new bits.”

“Gilles is back for another Saturday mix up selection and this week speaks to London based art director, designer and producer, Trevor Jackson.
Jackson’s career began when he created the design company BITE IT! in 1987 and, since then, his work has been exhibited at the ICA, Barbican and the Guggenheim. His cover art has been widely celebrated; the eye-catching visual campaign he created for Soulwax’s Any Minute Now netted him a whole heap of awards. Visual work aside, he has also proved himself to be an important part of UK music’s fabric, having remixed the likes of U2, Massive Attack and UNKLE. He also formed the label Output Recordings, which ran until 2006 and released music from artists such as Four Tet and LCD Soundsystem. Returning to releasing his own music, Jackson’s latest album FORMAT is his first album in 15 years – with each individual track being released on a spectrum of formats; 12″ vinyl to MiniDisk to reel-to-reel tape to VHS.”
