David Rodigan on BBC Radio 2 2011-07-14

David Rodigan showcases his love for all types of reggae music in a new ten-part series for Radio 2. With an hour of classic roots and reggae music from the 60s to the present day, Rodigan celebrates reggae’s back catalogue and looks to its future.
Playing the best in reggae, roots, ska and rocksteady, each song will be linked by Rodigan’s encyclopaedic knowledge and warm reflective stories from reggae music’s history. There will also be guests and live sessions from classic artists.
Rodigan is a hero to Jamaican music lovers here in the UK and right across the world. With his unique style and love for the genre, Rodigan has been at the top of his game for over 30 years. He has a massive following and is recognised as the authority in reggae broadcasting. There is no reggae artist Rodigan hasn’t interviewed and his contacts in Jamaica and across the world are unbeatable.
In part one, David introduces himself to the Radio 2 audience and plays a mix of iconic reggae tunes from his personal archive. The music includes Jamaica’s 1960s Rock Steady anthem by the legendary Alton Ellis, along with a roots rock reggae re-mix of Bob Marley and the Wailers’ Sun Is Shining and Barrington Levy’s first big Jamaican smash-hit alongside current hits from Beres Hammond and Tarrus Riley.”
