The dynamic group are known for their electrifying fusion of gospel, soul, and funk. They’ll be diving into their latest album, Rhapsody, which showcases their modern take on gospel music, blending it seamlessly with contemporary sounds.
In the mid-1960s, gospel groups and singers began to incorporate elements of popular soul and funk styles into their music. Across the country, local church bands recorded these powerful grooves, often pressing them in small batches on 45s. However, it wasn’t until 2006 that these hidden gems were brought into the spotlight, thanks to the Chicago-based reissue label Numero Group. Their release, Good God! A Gospel Funk Hymnal, was the first volume in a groundbreaking series that collected and made these revelatory singles widely available.”
