Mr Scruff – BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix 2013-12-31 [Classic] B.Traits’ choice

This one was aired first time 2009-02-07.
“Radio 1’s Essential Mix @ 20
“This Essential Mix was recorded live at my monthly ‘Keep It Unreal’ residency in Manchester, plying mostly vinyl with a couple of CDs thrown in there too. The venue at the time was the Music Box, a sweaty, dark basement, which is now a Tesco. Listening back, I can feel the atmosphere, the heat, and a room full of lovely people enjoying the music. Now that same room is full of stock assistants & chilled celery. Oh well! We have since moved the night to Band on the Wall, and will be celebrating the 15th year of Keep it Unreal in June 2014″. Mr Scruff, December 2013.”

Solid Steel Show 2012-09-21 Coldcut, DJ Irk and Mr Scruff

“More carnival vibes from Coldcut this week, starting with a heavy reggae selection from Courtney Melody, Ninjaman and Poison Chang who are joined by Om Unit, Ty & Roots Manuva and Hudson Mohawke. We hit double time with Enei, Dub Phizix and Guardians of Dalliance from 96, then two from Greensleeves with Mr Vegas and Admiral Bailey, before closing with The Bug, The Qemists and Dream Continuum.
DJ Irk steps in with a driving party mix with musical offerings from Todd Terje, Two Fingers, Captain Planet and hitting funky afrobeat flavours with Javi P3z Orqueta, ending with Bobby Byrd setting us up nicely for our guest in hour 2.
It’s a welcome return for our guest Mr Scruff in the second hour. Having previously released his own Solid Steel mix CD, he delivers another trade mark mix crossing the globe in search of the funkiest, soulful, house, and afro selections of the highest quality. In the pot, it’s tracks from Charles Wright, Theo Parrish, Andres, Orchestra Baobab and Funk E, all mixed to perfection.”

6 Mix 2011-08-07 Live from The Big Chill Festival mixes from Jamie XX, Norman Jay and Mr Scruff

“6 Mix is live from the Big Chill Festival in Eastnor, Herfordshire with three live DJ sets from the stars of this year’s festival. Since its inception in 1994, The Big Chill has established itself as the home of alternative dance music on the UK summer festival circuit. Over the past 15 years it has played host to performances from Orbital, Basement Jaxx and Massive Attack and this year boasts The Chemical Brothers and Kanye West as its headliners. 6 Mix reflects the festival’s dance music heritage with a special live show featuring two DJ performances from Big Chill stalwarts Norman Jay and Mr Scruff, alongside a special set from future superstar DJ Jamie xx. Norman Jay needs no introduction. As godfather of the rare groove scene and one of the finest purveyors of classic house through his Good Times soundsystem, Norman’s annual Sunday afternoon appearance at the Big Chill is a festival institution. Meanwhile Manchester’s Mr Scruff has continued ploughing his own eclectic furrow as a DJ and entrepreneur, diversifying into selling his own branded tea alongside his trademark epic DJ sets full of funk and soul nuggets. Finally Jamie XX is undoubtedly one of the future stars of the Big Chill; his fusion of dubstep & bass music mixed with nods to garage and house music defining the sound of underground dance music in 2011. Fresh from his critically acclaimed 6 Mix in February this year, Jamie plays a 30 minute set packed full of future electronic beats.”
