“Gilles opens the show this week with a tribute to Brainfeeder’s Austin Peralta, the jazz pianist who passed away this week at the age of 22. Austin performed an incredible session at Maida Vale for Gilles’ Radio 1 show last year, and will be sorely missed.
Gilles has two interviews this week, speaking to Chicago jazz vocalist Kurt Elling, who released a number of albums on the legendary Blue Note Recordings, and catching up with 3 members of the New York afro-beat 11-piece, Antibalas. Plus, there’s a snippet from Gilles’ chat with Lonnie Liston Smith (you can catch Lonnie on Craig Charles’ show this week), and there’s new music from Ultraista and Darkstar, whose sophomore album is coming out on Warp in February. And a previously unheard Unfortunately the Massive Attack interview will be delayed until the new year.”
