Carl Craig and Stacey Pullen – Detroit Love Mixmag Lab La Techno Takeover 2014-12-21

“Lab LA is our weekly post-work party where we stream the best live American and International DJs right from the heart of Hollywood. For this Lab, we kicked off the holidays in style with a Detroit Love takeover featuring legends Carl Craig and Stacey Pullen.
Techno pioneer Carl Craig is the force behind Detroit Love, a project honouring his home city and spreading Detroit techno all over the world. Its launch at ADE 2014 featured Motor City natives Moodymann and Recloose, and for this special takeover in the Lab LA Craig will be joined by fellow Detroit don Stacey Pullen.
One of the most respected and consistent dance music producers of all time, Carl Craig has managed to blend various genres of music into his own style and commands massive respect from the underground. His record label Planet E Communications has put out music from other key players such as Kevin Saunderson, Moodymann and Kenny Larkin – and in 2000 he helped launch the Movement Electronic Music Festival.
Stacey Pullen was an integral part of the second wave of Detroit’s electronic music boom. He got his start under the legends Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson and Juan Atkins – after decades of making quality tunes he continues to tour and release exciting, influential music. He has seen a massive year with his Blackflag imprint and in early 2015 he’s due to release his first EP in almost two years.”

Resident Advisor Exchange podcast RA.EX149 Carl Craig

The Detroit techno deity discusses his war machine.
For many, Carl Craig is the finest electronic music artist Detroit has produced. Since starting out in the early ’90s, he’s amassed an immaculate discography that’s spanned myriad aliases and genres. Much of this music has arrived via Planet E, the label he’s been carefully cultivating for over 20 years now. Craig released a string of impeccable remixes a few years back, which further fuelled his reputation as a specialist in the form, but he’s been relatively quiet on the production front since. This will be addressed next month with the release of Masterpiece for Ministry Of Sound, a triple CD that will collect his influences, the music he’s currently playing in clubs and a brand new collection of original material. It was on this subject that Joe Muggs began his conversation with Craig, and the pair went on to discuss The Beatles, pop music and the idea of the studio as an instrument of war.”

6 Mix 2011-03-27 Carl Craig

“DJ, Producer and techno music icon Carl Craig takes over the 6 Mix. The best known of the second wave of electronic producers from Detroit in early 1990s, Craig took his cues from the likes of Derrick May and Jeff Mills, fusing their pioneering sounds with a more experimental, jazzy soundscape. In 1991 he founded his own label, Planet E Recordings, which has gone on to release records by some of the biggest names in techno, from Moodyman to Kevin Saunderson. As he celebrates 20 years of Planet E, Carl takes over the 6 Mix to play some of his favourite releases from the last two decades, as well as playing and talking about some of the old school Detroit sounds which inspired him to make music. Carl also discusses the highlights of his remarkable career, where he sees techno music progressing and also takes to the decks for an hour mix of fresh electronic sounds direct from Motor City.”
