FACT mix 244 by Aardvarck

“Rather than sounding like a human iPod though, Aardvarck’s FACT mix rides a liquid trajectory through jazz, reggae, bumpy hip-hop and soul, vintage jungle, pirate radio grime recordings and much more. Azari & III – Headphone Highlights – RBMA Radio

“Azari & III kicked up a storm very early in their career with a whole heap of underground club hits such as ‘Hungry For The Power’, ‘Into The Night’, and uber house anthem ‘Reckless (With Your Love)’. The duo of Alixander III and Dinamo Azari are straight out of Toronto and, on hearing them, fellow Canadian artist Tiga wasted no time in signing them to his label Turbo. Since then Azari & III have gained fans from Broken Social Scene to Tensnake, and Grizzly Bear to Boys Noize. They’ve collaborated with Friendly Fires and Sal Principato of Liquid Liquid, and have an impressive string of remixes under their belt for the likes of Uffie, Munk, Creep, Booka Shade, and HEALTH amongst many others. In this edition of Headphone Highlights Azari & III guide you through the tracks which make them get up and dance! ”

Solid Steel Show 2011-04-29 Darren Judge, DK and Steinski

“This week Darren Judge drops another Future Dancehall mix. He’s no stranger to Solid Steel under his own name or as part of Clubb Rock. He spins another great selection of reggae influenced tracks from the likes of Top Cat, Roots Manuva, Dynamite MC and Major Lazer, before turning up the heat with Gyptian and Shy FX.
DK pops in to make up the hour with Daedelus, hip hop from Gangrene and Blaktroniks, Will.IAm reminding us that he did make good music 10 years ago and classic funky jazz from Rusty Bryant (all 9 min 38 sec’s – some tracks you just can’t cut short).
In hour 2 Steinski hits us with an almighty mix of Golden Era hip hop created to accompany a book all about hip hop sampling called Creative License. The sonic cut and paste artist dips and dives through hip hop legends Public Enemy, De La Soul, Run DMC and Marley Marl, all interwoven with the music they sampled from Steely Dan, Kraftwerk, Candido and Parliament, and of course peppered with his trademark spoken word.”

Resident Advisor podcast #257 by O/V/R (James Ruskin and Karl O’Connor, AKA Regis)

“O/V/R is the production outfit of James Ruskin and Karl O’Connor, AKA Regis. The pair are techno figureheads in their own right. Ruskin is boss of the long-serving Blueprint label, an outlet which since 1996 has been one of the go-to platforms for quality UK techno. Regis, meanwhile, has been playing and producing music since the early ’90s. He began the seminal Downwards imprint in 1993, which to this day is still emitting “bleak, imperious” post-punk and techno, and rolls as part of the Sandwell District collective. As O/V/R the pair has proffered a pair of 12-inches to date. The most recent, 2010’s Post-Traumatic Son, was fleshed out by three sets of remixes, which featured versions from Marcel Dettmann, Ben Klock, DVS1 and Robert Hood.”

6 Mix 2011-05-01 Dimitri from Paris

“6 Mix celebrates the bank holiday weekend by inviting legendary purveyor of house and disco, Dimitri from Paris, onto the decks. The man behind the first ever house music show on French radio, Dimitri was actually born in Istanbul before moving to France as a child. During the 1980s he produced soundtracks for fashion houses such as Chanel and Jean Paul Gaultier, and remixed the likes of Bjork, James Brown and New Order, before making his own grooves. He released his first solo album – ‘Sacrebleu’ – in 1996 and, since then, has gone on to compile albums of Philly funk and disco as well as re-edit artists including the Temptations and Steve Winwood. For his first 6 Mix in three years, Dimitri steps up to the decks to play a party set of 1970s disco nuggets and classic 1980s house tunes, alongside a selection of contemporary favourites from the likes of Tensnake and Hercules And Love Affair. There’s also the chance to hear some of the inspirations behind his latest ‘Knights of the Playboy Manson’ mix album.”
