Don Letts 2016-05-01 Culture Clash Radio with the Sundays

“Don will be celebrating 40 years as a DJ this year. He got started by playing reggae between live sets at London’s very first punk club, the Roxy, when very few punk records had been released. He still plays bass-heavy sets at clubs and festivals all over the world. His 6 Music Culture Clash Radio show is a more eclectic affair though, blending the new releases that catch his ear with personal favourites and classics from the UK, USA, Jamaica, Africa and beyond. There’s always plenty of bass culture too!
In his Crucial Vinyl feature, he highlights a cherished album from his own collection, explains why it means so much to him and features three key tracks. This week he picks Reading, Writing and Arithmetic, released in 1990 by The Sundays.
Don says, “It was really hard to pick between this and their third and final album Static and Silence, but this was the one that introduced me to the delightful tones of lead singer Harriet Wheeler, and I sure am glad I got to make her acquaintance via what is a quintessentially British record.”.”
