Don Letts 2016-03-13 Culture Clash Radio

“The Don’s selections cross time, space and genre and include Crucial Vinyl from Sufjan Stevens.
Each week, as well as picking key new releases and classics from the UK, USA, Jamaica and beyond, Don highlights a cherished album from his own collection. He explains why it means so much to him and features three key tracks. This week it’s Illinois released by Sufjan Stevens in 2005.
Don says, “Also known as Sufjan Stevens Invites You To: Come On Feel the Illinoise (a play on the Slade song), this concept album by the American singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist was inspired by events and people from the American state. Themes range from UFOs to John Wayne Gacy Jr, all delivered with a mixture of lo-fi and complex orchestrations – this is a beautiful record with some of the longest song titles ever committed to vinyl.”.”
