“Craig launches ‘The Funk & Soul Years’, which will run throughout 2015. We’ll be starting off in 1965, which was a huge year for the Funk & Soul Scene. James Brown was teaching us to do it on the 1. Wilson Pickett had been sent down to Memphis to learn how to get ‘down and dirty’. And you can’t look at the Funk & Soul Years in the mid-60s without looking at the state of the American nation. 1965 was a huge year, a year that saw the Selma Marches, The Watts Riots and the Voting Rights Act prohibiting racial discrimination in voting.”

“As BBC Radio 6 Music Celebrates Libraries, The Craig Charles Funk & Soul Show Celebrates Library Music. There’s something a bit dusty and mysterious about Library Music that Craig’s going to delve into with the help of the production duo Skeewiff. Library music is usually recorded by very talented session musicians, who write and play for music-library-labels. There compositions are then used on commercial enterprises in TV, radio and film. Sometimes they’re revived as a period-piece like the soundtrack to the blaxploitation spoof Black Dynamite. We’ve asked Skeewiff to give us the lowdown on the scene and create a Library Music masterpiece. We’ll be celebrating the Beverley Knight MBE in The History of Women In Funk & Soul. And Craig will hand over 15 minutes to a 6 Music listener so they can spin their favourite Northern Soul in Talcum Time.”
