“‘Joining the Essential Mix Hall of Fame are the brothers from the Bronx, Chris and Steve Martinez, aka The Martinez Brothers.
After bursting onto the scene in the US, they’ve built their reputation over the last three years in Ibiza as residents at DC10. As producers they were guided in the early years by the legendary Dennis Ferrer, who put out their first tracks on his Objektivity label. They’ve since made music for the likes of Saved & Crosstown Rebels; and they’ve recently remixed the likes of D’Julz, Deetron and Green Velvet.
This mix features new tracks from their label Cuttin Headz, as well as classics from Kerri Chandler and Masters At Work.”

“‘Israel’s Guy Gerber is the man behind the well respected Supplemental Facts label and tracks like ‘Stoppage Time’ and ‘Tourist Trap’. This summer has seen him take over the coveted Wednesday night slot at Pacha from Erick Morillo, with the ‘Wisdom Of The Glove’ residency.
Gerber recorded this Essential Mix ‘as-live’ in his Ibiza appartment overlooking Talamance Bay and he describes it as a farewell to the summer and a hello to the autumn. The mix features brand new music from tINI, Dixon, Gerber’s 11:11 collaboration with P Diddy and some unreleased live compositions.”

“‘This week’s Essential Mixer is Aalborg’s Rene Kristensen, better known as Noir.
He made his breakthrough in 2005 with ‘All About House Music’ and his track ‘Around’, with singer/songwriter Haze, has been an Ibizan anthem for the last couple of summers. He runs the label Noir Music, releasing material from the likes of Solomun, Danny Daze and Subb-an.
This Essential Mix features new music from Breach & Midland, John Tejada and Pirupa, as well as some exclusive ‘Mashnoir’ versions of Missy Elliot and Shakedown.”

“‘The Juan MacLean, real name John MacLean, is a former post-hardcore guitarist turned electronic music producer. He spent several years out of the music business after quitting his band Six Finger Satellite, before the band’s live sound engineer James Murphy persuaded him to make dance music for his new label DFA. He’s since released two albums on DFA and is set to drop his third later this year.
This Essential Mix features new material from The Juan MacLean, as well as new music from Bicep, Simian Mobile Disco, PBR Streetgang and Murk”

“Armin Van Buuren delivers a special edition three hour Essential Mix.
‘With the current trend of giving DJ’s only one hour slots at big festivals, I was extremely excited to hear Radio 1 wanted me to do a three hour set for a special Essential Mix. It’s been a while since I did my last studio mix so I decided to make something special for you, have a proper build up in this one, starting at 125BPM and building up all the way to a whopping who’s afraid of 138BPM! There are also many exclusive first plays in this mix.
The first hour is here to warm you up and set the mood for the mix with exclusives by BT & Alexander Popov. The second hour is mostly about my new artist album ‘Intense’ that was just released on Positiva / Armada Music, including my new single ‘This Is What It Feels Like’ and my brand new tracks with Richard Bedford, Laura Jansen, Emma Hewitt and many more. You’ll also find some exclusive stuff by Orjan Nilsen and Shogun in the 2nd hour.
Hour number 3 is building to a massive climax with some proper banging and uplifting trance with many exclusives, including a new Simon Patterson, ARDI and a brand new Photographer remix. “‘New Jersey’s Todd ‘The God’ Edwards first worked with Daft Punk in 2003 on the track ‘Face To Face’, which appeared on the robot’s second album ‘Discovery’. Fast forward 10 years and Bangalter and Guy-Man invite Edwards to LA to record a track for their new album ‘Random Access Memories’, which is finally released this month.
This special Essential Mix by Todd features exclusive material, loops and acapellas from Daft Punk, Georgio Moroder and the late Donna Summer, as well as exclusive remixes and dubs of Disclosure, Surkin and Rudimental.”

“‘Will Saul is the DJ and Producer behind two of the best underground labels in the land, Simple Records and Aus Music. Between the two imprints there have been over 100 releases from artists like Joy Orbison, Carl Craig, Pearson Sound and Scuba, as well as EPs from upcoming talents like Bicep, Dusky, Midland and George FitzGerald.
As a producer in his own right, Saul is about to embark on a brand new project called Close, which sees his second artist album ‘Getting Closer’ released on K7 in June, accompanied by a new live show featuring Bristol producer Al Tourettes playing live drums.
This mix features brand new material from Close, as well as from Midland, Dense & Pika, Sej, Youandewan and George Fitzgerald.”

“A couple of months ago, when we heard that we were going to get to mix our first Essential Mix, we had absolutely no idea what we were going to do. It’s a very big deal for us to do this mix. We decided to use a lot of old records and tracks that we really liked when we first started playing together in our hometown in Poland. That’s why, for example, we asked Jacek Sienkiewicz to send us ‘Dream Machine’ and also why we included Michael Mayer ‘Speaker’.
There is a lot of old vinyl that we included especially for our Essential Mix. Harry Kane, T-RWKR, Arto Mwambe, Needs, Terry Brooks and one of our all time favourite records from Alex Cortex that we even edited specially. We really have to thank Axel Boman for introducing us to Bassroots ‘Good Life’ and Marcin Czubala because we discovered Sofrito Specials through him.
There is something from our label Pets Recordings, that our friend Nikola Baytala from San Francisco will put out at the end of May. It will be his first EP for many years and this track is probably one of the most trippy things we’ve ever released. That’s why we love it so much! There are a lot of tracks in the mix that have their own story but, for now, we’re gonna let the music speak for itself’. Catz ‘n Dogz, April 2013.”

“Mala is a founder member of dubstep pioneers Digital Mystikz and the legendary dubstep night DMZ. He released some of the very first dubstep records on his DMZ label and Hatcha’s Big Apple Records and was a key player on Mary Anne Hobbs seminal Dubstep Warz radio show in 2006, alongside a young Skream & Benga!
He remains as vital as ever to bass music, releasing one of 2012’s best albums ‘Mala in Cuba’ on Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Recordings, a dubstep-meets-live-cuban-rhythms soundclash.”
