Don Letts 2016-11-06 Crucial Miseducation

“The Don’s selections cross time, space and genre and include Crucial Vinyl from Lauryn Hill.
Each week, as well as blending his favourite new music with classics from the UK, USA, Jamaica, Africa and way beyond, Don highlights a piece of Crucial Vinyl – a cherished album from his own collection. He explains why it means so much to him, and features three key tracks. This week it’s Lauryn Hill’s 1998 solo debut The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.
Don says, “Lauryn Hill’s debut solo venture is, without doubt, one of the greatest ever committed to vinyl. Musically it combined R&B, hip-hop, soul and reggae, indeed most of the album was recorded at Bob Marley’s Tuff Gong studio in Jamaica.
Lyrically Lauryn took on a range of personal themes – from the troubles within her band the Fugees, to her pregnancy by Rohan Marley. The end result was a record that received the most nominations and awards ever in a single night at that year’s Grammy awards – an astounding effort.”.”
